HELP! Evaluate this trade - AVRI for Custom Shop

You got me thinking about what a Fullerton Fender bass is, so I searched a bit.

I’d keep the Precision , however if you found the Jazz neck/sound more to your liking I’d wait and track down and try a Fullerton ‘62 Jazz Bass instead before committing any sale/exchange . Fullerton reissues used the original vintage correct body templates which differ from CS generic bodies . Strange to think the Custom Shop charge $$$ to replicate the vintage relic look but don’t even bother with period correct bodies .
I’ve owned a 1983 ‘62 Fullerton Jazz for many years now and wouldn’t exchange it for any CS equivalent.View attachment 4359962

I appreciate all the advice and feedback on this thread. Against everyone’s thoughts, I’ve decided to move the Precision. @7dollarbologna made me a fair offer and I accepted. He has a Fullerton Jazz and wanted a matching P. I’m thrilled it’s going to someone who will play and enjoy it! Im excited to bring the CS Jazz into the fold. Thanks everyone!

I like relics and don’t mind them..they are more comfortable to play and they often look good to me…to each their own..the Fullerton will eventually be worth more than the FCS, and sooner than later..the Fullerton’s were very well made, maybe not quite on the level as FCS, but fairly close…close enough for me to probably hold on to it over the FCS…but the custom shop is probably an excellent Jazz..

I have a 1982 Fender Fullerton American Vintage Precision bass. It's in my avatar. It's all original with original case and pickup covers.

I may be able to trade it for a Fender Custom Shop 1961 Time Machine Heavy Relic Jazz bass. It's a 2019. Original case and all case candy. Sweetwater sells them new for $4350.

I have a feeling the interest in relic’d basses some day will pass. Fashion does have a habit of changing. Kind of like Formica counter tops.

Late to the party but know how you feel. I didn't want to part with an older German made Warwick and a US Geddy Lee Jazz but sold them to fund getting a Jazz CS Time Machine. I think you made the right decision. P bass' simple design is just fine in the MIM/MIA range. I have a MIM nitro Precision with gold anodized pickguard that is fantastic.

Jazz basses on the other hand. Something about the higher end ones (custom shop) are more appealing to me.

Bad move. I've played a Fullerton, I've played CS basses, and my #1 Fender is a '06 AVRI '62, and I wouldn't trade it for any Custom Shops. The Fullertons are creme de la creme when it comes to Fenders. If I was you and wanted a Jazz, I'd look into one of the '62 AVRI or the '64 AVI instruments. They may not quite measure up to the Fullerton in every aspect, but I think they stand as just as equal to any CS I've ever picked up.

Out of genuine curiosity, why do you think the post-Fullerton AVRI/AVI’s do not measure up(I assume you meant in terms of quality) to the Fullertons?

The interest behind the Fullerton reissues is that they were built in the original Leo Fender plant using the original tools, by employees that went on to found the Fender custom shop- after the company was sold all that went away

Had both, kept the Fullerton. Neck profile, body contours.
The Corona one from 2003 wasn't bad, the Fullerton is top notch.
