Help get me into a Mesa/Boogie Subway WD-800 !!!

For most of the past 8 years I played, and was really happy with, Genz Benz amps. NeoPak, then Streamliner, then Shuttle. Streamliner was a bit *too* thick for me, I like a very quick, articulate attack. I went to a Sonic Farms 2di4 for a while and loved it, but my Zon/ACG was overdriving it in a not-good way. Then the WD-800 came out and I tried one and bought one.
I'm really, really happy, in both sonic and musical ways. It can be super articulate but can get phat if that's your thing. Honestly, I've barely needed to touch the extremely flexible and capable EQ to find tone Nirvana (not Nirvana's tone...). Sonic bliss. The fact that it's 2 ohm capable is also a big plus.

My band is currently recording. Here's a sample of WD-800 as DI. No processing, rough mix. Bridge pickup favored, Zon bass.

So, thanks to S-Bigbottom
He hipped me to a dealer in my area. I gave them a call, of course, none in stock :(

But they say they have a Subway D 800+ so, I could check that out as the last time I played through
any Mesa gear was about 20 years ago.

So before I fall further down the rabbit hole :)

I'll go and check out the Subway D 800+ in the next couple of days to see if the "Mesa" sound
is even for me. Though I am thinking it might be :)

Oh, I wasn't opting for the D-800+. I was just goin' to check it out to familiarize myself with the newer Mesa
sound. I would hold fast until I could get my hands on a WD-800, new or used :)

Thanks agedhorse but, too late. I've had this cab for years :) Yes it's 8 ohms :thumbsup:

I was looking for opinions on tone paring.

I currently use the Aguilar with either a GK 1001RB, 360 watts or a Carvin BX1500, 300watts, both @ 8 ohms. Sometimes it shares 450 watts if I couple it with an 18 speaker that I sometimes use with the Carvin.

And, it's still alive and kickin' :smug:

I see that the WD-800 weighs in at 400 watts at 8 ohms but, the Aggies at 300 watts :)

If I had the scratch for a new Aguilar cab, I'd get a Mesa maybe :)

Yeah 400 watts will pretty much toast alot speakers out there

Yet again most players have common sense. and yet again the duty cycle and actual wattage needed by most players probably lower than they think

Basically a 2x driver situation would be ideal. And the Generic Eminence Kapalite either 15" or 12" pair is a good way of ending most your cabinet needs.

I can be careful :)
I have to until I get more cash for a different cab. So, for now, I'll have to go with what I've got :D

pretty much, rather 400 600 or 800 watts

eventually it comes down to more speakers with a loud or louder band

the 2x12 high powered neo pair will basically replace the generic mid budget or high budget 4x10 of the past.

and like any guy thats gotten away with a 4x10 and pushed it rather hard. the 810 was the solution in all generic statements

likewise a decent high powered 4x12 neo can replace the 810

and once youve actually accepted carrying larger cabinets you realize the 600 to 800 watts is just plain not needed if the speaker system has higher efficiency

Yeah, my day's of playing in a fairly loud band is over. More by choice than necessity :)
More small group, quirky art jazz stuff with tasteful drummers and low watt guitar amps in small venues.
No need to blast :)

If I need to do that, I'll just go back to this:

Consistency works. Matching 2x12 pair will cover most bass applications.

Plenty of drivers out there. But i think Eminence has covered the market well.

Basically however you acquire a pair can be done. And withing reason how much mark up your willing to pay
The cast frame kappalite 12" neos pretty much get the job done

Alot players could probably do fine with a high power 1x12
I still think there is a little magic and safety margin with a 2x12

I got my first credit card by asking a credit union for a 250,000 business loan.

Of course knowing id be declined lol. I just did it to see how they would kindly say....ahhh heck no.

Anyways they Said sorry sir at this time we cannot offer you the loan but are able to offer you a 2000 dollar credit card.

WOO HOO!! got my first JBL pa system.


Told my boss i got the credit and i got the idea from him. Great salesman...best of the best.

He said, nobody knows who you are. As long as you speak with confidence on the phone and are dressed well in person. People have to assume what you are saying and portraying is true.

Its somewhat Easy to get Credit without a ounce of credit or a dime in your pocket.

And thousands of used items or new items can be purchased at any time with the plastic....

likewise suggest either a 2x12 or adding a 150 nitrous shot to whatever piece of crap hot rod you can afford lol
