My view is that if you cannot find the tone you what out of the WD800, keep working it. It's in there. One of three most versatile amps on my list which are Darkglass 900, Mellegan 800, and this one. All three are well outside my price range.
That's according to my mediocre ears... oh wait, that's my bass playing. My hearing is far worse. YMMV.

Coming from this amp:
I am not afraid to turn knobs. I've never been a set it flat and forget it kinda guy
Even if 'flat' sounds good, there's always something new to be had. I don't have a fixed sound.
I love to change my sound around. Some days dark and moody, other days bright and peppy, and I like an amp that can stretch with me.
I am not knocking anyone who likes an amp that they set once and that's their sound. Trouble is for me, that's fine for now but maybe I'll want another sound. Unlike most of my bass brethren, I don't have the cheddar or space to just buy another amp that offers me another tone set flat, just to get that other sound
I need to get many sounds out of one amp
I think this amp, the Subway WD 800 has those possibilities
I'm with you, man. Sometimes I need bright and clean, sometimes I need dark and thumpy, often I just want some nice deep growl. WD + string attack = your heart's desires.

Just got off the phone with Sweetwater and this happened:
on a New Mesa Subway WD-800

I've cycled through a lot of gear over the years. The WD-800 falls in the "no regrets" category - which has a surprisingly small number of members
I took your advice and took the plunge. Call today not realizing that today was the last day of that offer.
It should be here in the next 4-5 days.

Haha, it’s a storage bin from Walmart 4.99 or something, they’re real popular for students going back to school, it works great and doesn’t look tacky like milk crates...
It’s sturdy enough to hold this rig up but I wouldn’t go any heavier..
