Yeah, I see the possibilities. My view is that if you cannot find the tone you what out of the WD800, keep working it. It's in there. One of three most versatile amps on my list which are Darkglass 900, Mellegan 800, and this one. All three are well outside my price range.
That's according to my mediocre ears... oh wait, that's my bass playing. My hearing is far worse. YMMV.
Just got off the phone with Sweetwater and this happened:
Invalid Link Removed on a New Mesa Subway WD-800
This will be the second new amp I have ever bought and the first high tech, to me, amp
They say 4 to 5 days to my door, impressions to follow![]()

I have a Walkabout Combo 112 and I love it, supposably the WD800 has a little DNA from it but I don’t know, never had an opportunity to try one. I did get a D800+ and wasn’t impressed at all so I sent it back, I recently got a GK Legacy 800 and it is killer, I use it with Mesa Subway Cabs, I gigged it this past weekend with just the 112 no FOH with a 5 piece band in a medium to large bar room, it was nice, punchy and just Badd Ass, don’t know how else to explain it, it reminded me of my GK 400RB with a 410 rig that I used for many years...

Haha, it’s a storage bin from Walmart 4.99 or something, they’re real popular for students going back to school, it works great and doesn’t look tacky like milk crates...What is the box/crate that your rig is sitting on?
It’s sturdy enough to hold this rig up but I wouldn’t go any heavier..What is the box/crate that your rig is sitting on?
What do people mean by "studio monitor" sound anyway?I also own a d800 and tried the wd. The wd has this really
Studio monitor. I think you might want to look into Eich, Tecamp or trickfish for that type of tone. And some barefaced 12's.
That comment is based solely on my reading of hundreds of posts over the past few years.
I did hear a Tecamp black jag and their 212 cab when I saw a clinic with Bobby Vega a few years back. That rig sounded glorious and clean.
To me, it means something like this:What do people mean by "studio monitor" sound anyway?
Clean and transparent. That's how a good studio monitor should sound, at any rate. What do people mean by "studio monitor" sound anyway?
