Help Identifying These Strings Please

Got a used Music Man with these on it. Feel stainless, not Pro Steels though. I recently played a new Squire 40th Anniversary Jazz and I believe it had these too. I know they are not Fender Nickels, but I am not seeing a Fender Stainless that isn’t flat wound. Great flexibility almost like High Beams. Probably 45-105.. any thoughts?

Those are D'Addario brand with a black D. Fender-branded sets would have silver for the D.

Thank you, now it’s a question of which ones.. I have a set of Pro Steels on another bass and these are definitely not the same. I strongly believe they are not nickel. They zing like ss and have that ss feel.

They could possibly be the NYXL Nickels.

Any way you can post pics showing more of the strings?

You already know they're not ProSteels, which are the only stainless steel roundwound D'A offers. And you did mention about their flexibility. I suggested NYXL's because they're supposed to be more flexible than the regular XL Nickels.

I should mention one other possibility... D'Addario FlexSteels, which were discontinued a few years ago. As the name implies, they were stainless steel roundwound designed to be more flexible than the ProSteels.

I do think they are NYXL’s. The bass is a USA Sterling so there’s some zing baked in to the tone. I put fat beams on it and they were far too zingy, plus the feel was much rougher leading me to believe the initial ones were in fact nickel.

I’m with you on those being NYXL’s. They definitely are way more flexible than any other D’Addario string and they are super bright and super snappy sounding…much like steels. Looking at your pictures those are also way too shiny too be steel strings. NYXL it is I’m sure.

I just held these photos up to the Pro Steels I've got fitted: yes the colour / tone is quite different. The Pro Steels are dull in comparison with all the other metal around on the headstock.
