I'd keep the Lull because if I ever needed another one it would cost me more than what I sold mine for. A MIM Fender can be picked up any time.

You obviously prefer “Classic” or “standard” basses. You’re keeping the P. You’re keeping the Stingray. Keep the Fender Jazz. Get some money for the Lull and pay off some debt. Paying off debt is ALWAYS the right choice.

Hey all,

So I have 4 basses - a Fender Precision, a Fender Jazz, A Mike Lull M4V Jazz, and a Stingray. I only want to keep 3 and even that's more than I actually need. I play live regularly.

That said, I will keep the P because I need the P with flats tone I get from it, the Stingray because, well, I need that Stingray tone too.

The dilemma is either keeping the MIM Fender Jazz or the Lull. I only need one Jazz bass.

- The Fender is nice, a 2019, and it's a basic Jazz bass but it's got the iconic look and color that a Jazz bass should have IMO.

- The Lull M4V is the best bass I've ever owned. Light, downsized body, Fralin pups, OBP-3 preamp, etc etc. The neck is a dream.

I feel like I'm answering my own question as I type this, but they're both Jazz basses that even to my own band mates, basically sound the same. But I could sell the Lull for three times what I could the Jazz. Don't NEED the cash, but ...

Keep the Lull.

You'll always be able to buy back a Fender jazz if you later decide you want or miss one. Much harder to do if you sell the Lull, and realize you miss that one...

If it’s not obvious to you which you want to get rid of, and you don’t absolutely need to get rid of one, why go through the hassle of selling one (and then asking TB what you should do)? Extra cash is nice but it’s not like selling one is gonna give you enough money to move into a bigger home or go on an international vacation or retire early or something.

It just seems odd that you don’t know which bass to sell when your two options are “a regular old dime-a-dozen fender jazz” vs “the best bass I’ve ever owned Mike Lull.” Is it really not obvious to you which to get rid of? Sounds like you don’t actually want to get rid of any of your basses, or maybe you think you should for some reason?

With that in mind, I say sell the Lull.

(see? If reading that doesn’t make you balk, then it’s clearly not the choice you want to make. So either sell the fender or you don’t actually have to sell anything.)

I've seen threads here 20 pages long talking about what shade of tortoise shell pickguard a guy should get. It's not that weird. I just wanted to get some thoughts on a dilemma some musicians face.

Lull all day. You said it yourself - best bass you’ve owned. Sell the Fender and update the Lull preamp to allow fully passive operation.

The Lull has an active / passive switch.
