Help Me Pick

Endorsing Artist-Compton Compensated Custom Bridges (for Gretsch 6ers)
Everyone's favorite game.

Budget- $1500-$2000 (less is always better)

Country rock and classic rock

My needs:

Light

Loud enough (but good sounding) for medium gigs with a drummer that is good at playing appropriately to the size of the venue. Also good for stage monitoring for larger gigs with PA support (up to smaller outdoor festivals)

Should work well with a 5-string

Roadworthy- I take care of my gear, but it's gonna spend time in a trailer.

I want it to keep me happy a long time. (Well, I always *think* I'm going to stay with one rig...)

Considering:

Genzler 350/10-2 combo, with another 10-2 cab

T.C. Thrust with a couple T.C. RS or K210 (maybe 212?)

TBD vertical 210 cab with a Genzler 10-2 on top and either the M350 head or the TC head.

Markbass Ninja500+a 10 or 12" cab. (I know nothing about Markbass and can't find one locally to try)

Maybe the Fender Stage 800+the matching extension cab

Whatever else you folks can come up with.

Go!

Edit to add that answers to questions and my thoughts are in posts
6,8,11,13,35, and 40, if you don't want to read everything.

Not gonna lie. If I were gonna blow $1600 on a rig, it wouldn’t be TC. And I like the company a lot. Definitely don’t touch Markbass, and probably wouldn’t touch Fender at that price either.

What about an Aguilar AG700 or Mesa D800? Used that’s around $600-800?

Then for your performance requirements, I’d find two 1x12 cabs @ 8ohms each. Aguilar, Mesa, GK (eh), Bergantino (used possibly).

I have M.S., have broken my back in five places, and my neck twice.

Markbass is no good?

I can get Bergantino, Genzler, Ampeg, Hartke, and Fender stuff new here. I'm in Montana and have one music store unless I want to drive 2 1/2 hours.

Genzler and Bergantino from that list for sure. Do it right the first time.

Pity you don't have a Mesa dealer nearby. I'd go Mesa Subway over any of them.

They're really that good? I just wonder about the digital stuff in the long run. It's right at my 40# limit I'd like.
They Are! Go audition one. I've got a Studio 40, as that is all I need. The amp modeling is astoundingly accurate/authentic as are the speaker cabinet emulations. I don't use effects much, but they are there and are all super quiet studio quality. There is a steep learning curve, or at least for me there was. If you are technologically savvy, it will be easier for you.

Fender has done better than anyone else in the mimicking of actual vacuum tube behavior & tone. You can even set the 'bias' and 'sag' on some of the tube amp models. I've played tube amps most of my 48 playing years, and I'm amazed at how close it comes to: '66 ampeg flip top B-15 and SVT, Fender Super Bassman, Fender Dual Showman, Marshall Super Bass, Hiwatt, 1970's Orange.

If you like GK, it positively nails the 800RB and sounds more like a GK than GK's own MB series.

I think that you are on the right track with Genzler. Love the Magellan. One other thought I would have is to get a Magellan head (maybe even an 800) and a RevSound 212 cab (google them - I have two of their cabs and love them both)! I’m currently using a Berg Forte with a RevSound 210 and it’s a killer rig. 210 and 212 both under 40 lbs. I’ve used the same cabs with Magellan but didn’t need to 2 channels of the 800. Forte is simpler and also a great amp. Both are available in TB classifieds last I looked.
