Help: shopping for 5-string, $500-$800

there is a candy apple red lakland 55-02 that keeps getting posted on bassgear. if you want a versatile bass in that range you cant beat that deal.

my next choice would be buying a new yamaha trb 1005 from guitar center as they have them marked down to 499 now....and you can probabaly talk them down another 10% or so. then afterwards, get some nordstrand pickups for it.

lakland still gets my first vote though.

Although I love the way 55-01s feel and play, they don't have the best electronics. If you don't mind narrower string spacing, the Tribute L-2500 and Ibanez ATK305 are much better deals since they are both about $200 dollars cheaper than the 55-01 new and they really sound like much expensive basses: the MIA L-2500 & EBMM Stingray.

Haven't played the Lakland, and I'm not a big fan of Ibanez (if you like yours then super, they don't make me feel good though), I have a Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 that is pretty versatile. They go for around 600 and nothing I have played in that price range has made me regret my decision. I have played a few out of that price range that make me cranky about it, but that's another story.
