Lindy Fralin makes a 51 style pickup in a split coil that sounds really good. I have also played a Seymour Duncan stacked 51 style that is good but I perferred the FralinTonal variation with a P will come from subtle use of the tone knob and right hand technique. I just prefer the tone of the split coil. It also eliminates 60 cycle hum which the single coil version may produce.

A little background, the wife is allowing another bass purchase and the budget is limited. I've got it down to two Squire choices. One is a standard P bass with split coils and the other is a 50's p single coil.
If you could have only one, which one and why?
Spoken like someone who isn’t married and doesn’t have to compromise.Personally, I find the idea that there are people who feel that they have to ask for permission from their partner (or controller) to do something that they want to do really pathetic.
Even more tragic is asking a room full of strangers what they should do once they get permission.

How about the bass player to ZZ Top?Don't ask me, I love the sound of a single coil Pee Bass. Most people, when they say Pee Bass, are talking about the split coil sound. They are not the same. I'm thinking Keith Ferguson with the T-Birds.
Well. Aren't you as fresh as a spring rain.Personally, I find the idea that there are people who feel that they have to ask for permission from their partner (or controller) to do something that they want to do really pathetic.
