Yes I believe it is. In fact if you want to see a video of Herbie playing THIS bass on THAT song and be able to watch him play it with close camera work AND be able to isolate the bass track - I highly recommend www.showmehowtoplay.com. Each song costs 1.99 but is well worth it especially this one. I think his Jazz bass sounds awesome on this. It's just the 'right' sound for a record.

yeah, that bass line blew my mind the first time i listened to it closely.
I've been checking out the interviews with him they have on that site, it's pretty interesting.
edit: where is the video for space oddity? i can't seem to find it on there.

Love Herbie Flowers. His work with Bowie and Lou Reed is phenomenal. Walk on the Wild Side has a great... errrr.. two great bass lines.

I saw him talk about Wild Side and he said he wanted to put two bass lines on it because he'd get paid twice as a session musician. Said it was an old trick....:)

I’ll add that the decal on Herbie’s bass was added by George Harrison’s tech during a tour he did with him. Hence it being “wrong”. Plus Herbie reckons when he bought it it had no headstock decal at all, just the “F” on the bridge cover.
This bass seems to be one of the early prototypes that escaped into the wild, hence the three knob controls and other oddities.
