Double Bass Here I GO!

I would add that every minute spent on my UB has made be better as a Bassist. I've learned a lot from my experiment, and it's not close to done yet!

It still has the original strings (taken off multiple times for adjustments) and, IMHO. a neck that is too thick. I'll either kill it, or save it when I start shaving.

I play it for a minute or two B4 I go to work now.. It helps me get centered for the day ahead.

Here I go, again, with some practical knowledge. Yes, The cheap Chinese Bass was a starting point. I ended up trading it, and $300 for a Jack Casady Bass, that did self destruct. The tail piece ferrules decided to pull out of the body. A little gorilla glue, and it's been my main Bass for a while now.

My new UB is an Englehardt C-1 (made around 1998). I played 2 notes on "Large Marge", and I got it! She has been set up, and the bridge has been upgraded (solid). I'm loving it!

Wow, thanks for the update! Your audience's faces, as well as a lot of technology profiles, have changed at least a little over the years, but your shared experience, and many of the comments it has inspired, have been at least interesting to read.

As a 2nd year player with lots of other fretted instrument experience, I'd be interested in your experiences and current choices with various setup items: strings, pickups, pre-amps, amps, etc.

I hope your Englehardt provides you with years/decades of happy playing!

Thanks! I know Large Marge and I will have a long relationship together.

As far as setup, That had been done by the previous owner. She has a C&C bridge pickup I haven't even tried yet, because the Bass projects well. The strings are a hybrid steel string that is supposed to feel more like a gut string, and I can tell the tension isn't as tight. I'll be playing my first gig with it in a very small club Thursday.
