Seeing how the new Squiers have reached a new level of quality even better than some Fenders. Wouldn't it be nice if you could order a custom Squier? Now before this gets bombarded with "but they are so cheap to mod". My point is more of body and finish choice etc. Hmmmm I'm thinking for myself a Silver metallic VM Jazz with matching headstock and Musicman style humbuckers. What would you order?

A nice thought but the price would undoubtedly go up. It's cheaper to be able to mass produce a select number of instruments.

But I'll play. Basically the current '51 P as it is, except in Sherwood Green and cut the gloss on the neck. I'd' swap the pickguard for a White Pearl since I'm not greedy enough to want them to offer it as an option :)

They are good basses for the money but personally, I don't think the quality has increased at all and certainly isn't better or even comparable with Fenders. I think the reason you will never see custom orders for Squiers is that it wouldn't be cost effective for the manufacturer or the buyer..

It's not that quality increased in EVERY bass squier offers....but they put the VM and CV series out which are very nice quality instruments.

There still some ****** squiers out there.

If they offered "custom" options???? I would order the CV jazz bass with matching headstock in fiesta red or sonic blue ashtray covers and straplocks :)

Then...I would change electronics (cts pots, cloth wire, cap)

The VM fretless is already pretty close to as cool as it gets for me, but if I had to think of something new, I think I'd go with...

The VM P body in some sort of classic car color (powder blue, shell pink, seafoam green, or the like) with bridge and pickup cover and a jazz style neck with Rosewood, and matching headstock.

This would be cool. Who knows, maybe they'll start busting out multiple color options since they've become so popular.

Definitely a Classic Vibe Jazz. Stack knobs, either in Shoreline Gold, some kind of obnoxious Red, or Seafoam Green. White pickguard, matching headstock, rosewood fretboard, sanded maple neck, vintage bridge and tuners, thumb rest, and pup covers. Basically a '62 reissue. Just $800-$900 cheaper :hyper: If I wanted to go crazy, pearl inlays with binding. Hey, it's a Squier. What could that add, 50 more dollars? Haha

Oooook now I've got GAS!

Also, I'd get just the neck pup cover. I hate the look of those blank bridge ones that SX's have. Unless the Squier can ship with a bridge cover with the nice big "F" on it...I'll order a replacement one separately :) Damn I wish we could actually do this instead of having to mod them ourselves!

I'll say it: I do have Squier custom basses. I've built them myself.

Now I realize this is a flight of fancy, but can you imagine what options like the ones you mentioned would add to the cost, not to mention production times, of these basses? Take a look at the Fender Custom Shop stuff, and when you've recovered from the sticker shock, tell me with a straight face that the same idea should be applied to the Squier line.

I believe the OP meant that it would be cool for squier to offer custom colors....not crazy custom options like exotic woods, crazy pickup configs, etc. although he mentioned a music man style pickup... :hmm:

It would definitely be cool if squier, or in that case Fender offered classic colors...but hey...at cookie cutter production you can't have that.

You don't think quality has increased? Do you know as a fact? Hmmm spend 1200 on a MIA and pull the pups, put a HM bridge on it ... now 1500, still have necks that shift around and become misaligned just like any bolt on might,

Or spend 300 on a beautiful Squier VM Jazz w Duncan pups, and good to go. If you want a HM Bridge 70, pups 125, machines, 80... now 575, just as good but the LABEL. Mod it to your spec. Man maple is maple, rosewood is rosewood, even the Affinities have great wood and workmanship, hardware is lacking, but $200! better woodwork than MIM.
Play one before you just assume.;) And read about the converts all over this forum.
