I looked at one of their random schematic and it contained obvious errors.Just finished reading this thread, the whole of it. I want a HPF, badly.
Interested in DIY options, I found these. Does anybody have any experience with these kits/PCBs? There is very little info, just schematics, parts lists and wiring diagrams, somehow I suspect they’re not original desings but copies... of what?

I think it's pretty safe to say that the consensus is to put it at the beginning. There's no point in feeding those frequencies to your whole signal chain just to filter them out at the end. They won't add anything useful, and they may be detrimental. That said, right before or right after the tuner is totally fine. it's just a tuner after all.I have a Broughton HPF on order and am still trying to figure out the best placement for it on this little board, right after the tuner or right before the preamp. I've heard everything from the beginning to the end to it doesn't matter.

I've seen that for players with a lot of pedals on their board, some of which could re-add unwanted low end. Mine is pretty simple.I don’t think there is a consensus.
Some players, including myself, place it at the end of the signal chain...

My approach is to see what works best in each situation, but as a general rule I try to eliminate frequencies I do not want as early in the signal chain as possible. Some effects may be triggered more by certain frequencies or do some tone shaping (HPF/LPF kind of things) where it may be more desirable to feed a full range signal to that effect and then apply a HPF (if/as needed) afterwards.
Hmmm...I'll have to try it that way next time I plug in. Never really gave that much thought but I guess it makes sense.Compression would likely be better after the HPF, so you aren't triggering the threshold with LF outside of the passband.
