High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

I found out our sound guy is using a LPF set at 2k on my bass, so I sat at home and set a LPF at 2k with both eq's I have available (motu audio interface and Helix Stomp), and I don't see how that could be reasonable. I think setting it at 4k sounds fine, but 2k sounds awful. I think I could use any bass or cardboard box probably, and it would sound essentially the same. I looked for info on LPF and didn't see much, although I couldn't read all 100 pages (sorry). Any thoughts?

Once you have everything in proper working order, I highly recommend that you consider a High Pass Filter if you want to keep that 4x10 in working order. I would also suggest that you look into an additional 4x10 to ease the pain your single cab is feeling.
IMHO, you are asking too much from a single 410 and given that most 4x10's will blast the crap outta your knees and ankles, it's giving everything is has and you are missing most of it!

I bought a broughton hi pass + low pass filter and it has no numbers on it...I took it out of the package and then put it back in the package where it has set for 4 months..I am lost on the no numbers thing...
Ears work. Wail on bass and bring up the HPF until it sounds lacking then . Same in reverse for the LPF.

Do you have an audio interface and a computer? If it were me I'd at least run a simple RTA test and figure out the basics with the controls on full CCW, noon, and full CW. But I'd do that even if it had numbers printed on the faceplate, it's just how I roll. ;)

Yes, ARTA Software worked for me just awesome during spring lockdown to know the numbers on my HPF/LPF: High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread. But at the end I'm really digging the no numbers thing too :bassist::bassist::bassist:.

Do you play upright? I think that approach would probably work with my electrics (I don't really play a lot of electric gigs), but I'm always adjusting the HPF(s) for my upright.

I do, but I only own an EUB at the moment, and most of my gigs over the last 15 years or so were on that. Most of my DIY amps have a single full parametric band that goes down to around 100Hz as well, with a very tight notch option if desired.

Thank you -- I saw the photo but missed the links. I see, here, that the range for the HPF is 22 Hz to 212 Hz and the LPF 308 to 17 KHz, which seems wide-ranging and practical (I doubt I'd sweep that low on the LPF, but I don't suppose that it hurts to have the range!).

As for the circuit diagram, I am ignorant enough of such things not to be able easily to decipher the order/slope of the filter by looking. I see capacitors and resistors... one cap on the HPF side, one on the LPF side? Are these first order filters (6 dB/octave)?

The values between 22 Hz and 212 Hz and between 308 Hz and 17 kHz by the position of the pot regulators were calculated using online calculators from the messages above (just for beauty, without measuring - I understand that this is stupid, but I was lazy, because the final result of the work I quite liked the device)
