What are the options for buying an HPF in Europe? I am wondering about Radial Engineering SB-4, but it uses 48 V phantom power, and that's not very practical for live usage. I am planning to buy Joyo R-12 Band Controller EQ to chase a certain type of sound, and am wondering whether that one could replace the HPF, as the R-12 has 31 Hz and 62 Hz attenuators? I guess that somewhere below 32 Hz still some of the lowest frequencies will still pass, as this is not a true HPF, but each attenuator is rather a notch/bandpass filter?

1. Too strong signal? How you can do that from bass guitar? And especially passive one? 2nd harmonic is where amplitude of the note is the highest way below subs (even for 5 string bass). It's almost impossible to do thatDo you think that bass cab manufacturers don't know that?
2. Amp will wont waste power for useless frequencies if you don't crank them up. Simple as that
3. Shroeder freq. Is way above subbass. Mainly 200-300hz so you don't use HPF that high anyway.
Sorry but to blow away your cab you have try realy hard to make it come true. Same with reduce unwanted freq which bass not produce. Not mention amp. If you don't boost you won't add gain to that frequencies. And bass lives in mids + what I write above. Of course you can use HPF - it's up to you and I'm the last person who will forbid anyone to use it, but as I said above, it's 9/10 useless anyway.

The answer to #1 is by boosting the bass knob. Bass cab manufactures do know this and (the good ones) take it into account when they determine the power rating. Some even recommend using an HPF.
It's not hard or nearly impossible to damage a speaker. That just depends on the specific cab and amplifier.
Man! I play on bass for 16 years now and I never blow up speaker, have distorted sound or any of BS you talk about here. I just use my eq to eq my tone not to destroy my gear. LOL. If you boost lows, gain and volume all the way up then you have it. But, again, probably only insane people will do that LOL.I gather you have never used one live? If you have you might reevaluate your position.
Most amplifier designs incorporate some sort of HPF (some are tunable or selectable). Often a combo (speaker/amp) would have a better tuned system to deal with these frequencies but a amp head typically does not and is wholly dependent on the drivers you choose to use, which may or may not be able to handle excessive bottom end load.
An HPF might help if you're having any issues with rumbling on stage.
They do help the amplifier run a bit more efficiently so that the amp need to waste energy trying to reproduce unwanted low frequencies.

Ok. If you won't explain me that what I wrote is not true then how we can discuss? You are not serious guys. I explain you everything above and I don't know what funny is that. I never heard that Pino, Vic or any of serious player use HPF because maybe one day he'll get fool and crank everything up and will bang his bass until blow up speakers and destroy the gear. That's the real funny thing! 3db boost or cut (which most of the time is enough) don't kill your sound and amp! Do you realy think that without this HPF box your sound will be worse than just learn how eq works and how to eq your sound for music/band? Because if you have a FOH he make the "room" job for you.
Ok. I know it. But why use another HPF then if you have one built-in your amp? If you don't add enormous db to your low end you won't have ANY problems at all. Amps and cabs are built to last not just blow out because you turn some knob a little bit up or down! You still forget that bass amp and cab is not a PA system. An HPF lets you conture the low end of your signal much better. For example you can get a big boost at 80 - 160 hz whilst reducing the load on the speaker down in the 30 - 40 hz range. Hard to do that with a simple bass eq knob. A variable HPF also lets you easily adjust for live stage conditions that will vary from place to place. Take out any subsonic frequencies while maintaining your bottom end is much easier with an HPF.Ok. I know it. But why use another HPF then if you have one built-in your amp?
