High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

maybe this can solve

Interesting idea, but from what I can see, it only works with Xotic basses and no mention of it working on others. I would contact the company and ask about that before you buy one...

@Audere made a noise-canceling system for use with single-coil pickups. I think (but am not sure) that it could be used with or without one of their preamp modules. Don't know if they still make it, but it looked interesting: Audere noise cancelling preamp-single coils without the hum

75+ hours since no post ?

This must cease !

Still digging my Broughton always on HPF.

That is all.

Me too...that is all ;).

Me too too.

That is all.

Me three! But that's not all!

I was practicing the other night. And I have so much amp gear that I'm trying different combinations of heads and cabs every time I practice. It's just fun and it teaches me how they all work with each other.

So the other night I played my Ashdown LB30 through my Ampeg 610. It got stupid loud. But I was struggling with this setup. It was muddy! Now, that Little Bastard is anything but muddy! And I have coaxed plenty of mids out of that 610 with other heads. But this was beating me up. I was about to swap heads when it dawned in me. I hadn't run through my little magic box.

Whipped out the always on. Noodled around while dialing up a degree or two every few seconds until..... bam! There it was. Clarity.

I still had all the heft I could stand. But it just cleaned up everything.

So simple. Yet so effective.

:)

There's the proof!

Unless YOU have this tool in your gig bag you'll miss out on possibility of making your rig (or any rig) sound better.

Does anybody know of a relatively inexpensive variable LPF available in Europe?
I don't necessarily need the HPF function (built in my Genz Streamliner).
I thought about an used Ibanez LF-7, but then I'd be stuck with the 80 hz HPF (can't be set lower) and I read that it still gives a bit of overdrive even when keeping the drive knob at min.

All right, I'm in on the thread.
Just received a Broughton Always ON HPF and hooked through my board. Even at low volumes on two separate basses I noticed a difference in the clarity of notes with no mud that I didn't believe I was already generating. Next night at band practice, I absolutely spotted a difference of the clarity at higher volumes. In fact it was so clear, I was able to reduce the volume on my amp. I'm a full believer. Thanks to all of you for pointing the way...and dang me for not figuring out those knobs on my (already sold) Hartke 3500.

Right... what a difference it makes!

what hpf do you recommend for my rumble 100 combo, and how do I use it? :smug:
I use a Broughton HPF with phil jones 100 watt combo unit . I really get more headroom when I use it. Personally I set it to the room. Filter out all the boomy frequencies. Starting around 40 hz and adjust it from there.

I've never heard anyone say a fart was good. I have a Broughton HPF incoming (for the LMIII). Mainly posted in the thread so I can come back and read it in its entirety as time permits.
