Hipshot KickAss bridge

Just what I needed! Great. [presses enter on ebay]

Here's another... I would just say that this is a Bitsa and not a Fender Jazz, but hopefully it's not a million miles away.

The Kickass on this Fender Marcus Miller looks a little closer to the edge of the body.

I think it'll be OK. A Kickass looks a lot better on a Jazz than it does on a Precision, imho.

Not an ideal situation, but the careful application of a little blue Loctite on the grub screw will stop it from moving.
But then it would prevent further adjustment, which isn't really a big deal. I know where I want it, unless I ever needed to make any real adjustments to the neck. I'm willing to bet there's nowhere easy to get just one replacement saddle.

Blue loctite will let you move the setscrew with a normal wrench but the screw won't move until you move it. Red loctite requires heat or solvent to loosen it up.

For completeness I decided to measure the weight of all my bridges. Here’s what I got in order from lightest to heaviest

OEM Fender Threaded Rod - 3.1oz
Hipshot Style A Aluminum - 4.5oz
Leo Quan Badass 2 - 7.9oz
Hipshot Kickass - 8.4oz
Hipshot Style A Brass - 9.2oz

Dang, I loathe the gigantic branding on my Babicz bridges, but the Kickass would add a full quarter pound (!!!) of weight to my basses (3.7 oz Babicz vs 8.4 oz Kickass), one of which I built to be as light (comfortable) as possible (under 7 lbs.). The Kickass weighs more than two Babicz bridges! Bummer for me. I guess the tackily-branded Babicz stays. :(

For those who've purchased or seen the black ones: Are they real, old-school, actual black, or that steely-gray cosmo nonsense? It's hard to judge from photos.

I have a bass with older black hardware that needs a bridge, and none of the new black bridges that I've seen matches the old stuff.

Thanks for any info.

Hipshot makes Brass and Aluminum Bridges but are not 5 bolt bolt ins, and you have to drill new holes (04 holes), But they talked me into the K/A (Cast Zinc) on my 2012 American P Bass due to the 5 bolt direct bolt on, same material in the Bass Ass and the Omega, for 60 bucks its a great up grade, thee fact you can use either Brass or S.S saddles is great, I was looking at the omega due to the ridges but it seems its a hit or miss on finding them, I dont know how much difference the ridges do I think its helps on setting up string spacing, but watching videos on this they say it helps and the Omega is cheaper , think they run 50 bucks vs the 85 bucks for the Hipshot K/A.

Couple things: 1st, you can totally get the Style A and Style B bridges in 5 screw versions. I have a Brass Style A on my Japanese Fender Jaguar. It doesn’t actually use 5 screws however, it only uses 3. But I have not had any issues it all with it.

2nd, are you sure your American P Bass uses a 5 screw bridge? Most American Fender basses offer string through option which has a different screw pattern (3 screws). I would double check that you don’t need the Hipshot bridge made for American Fenders, which would still allow you to get the Style A or Style B

I wound up taking the VMJV bridge I had laying around and turned (butchered) its baseplate I to a template for the bolt-pattern needed for the Kickass Bridge. The Affinity’s 5-hole pattern pretty much lined up in between all 6 holes of the VM bridge pattern.

The red-colored holes are those of the
Affinity 5-hole pattern, drilled and countersunk into the VM baseplate:

Mounted the base plate to the Affinity body and marked/drilled holes into the body as per the 6-hole pattern. The Kick-ass bridge mounted easily after that.

I went with the black bridge because I get that the Chrome would just be too much...chrome...
