Hipshot KickAss bridge

Just bought one of these to install on my MIM Jazz 5er. Unfortunately it's not a direct fit, so gonna have to fill and drill new holes...anyone else done one of these? I am only slightly concerned about something going wrong...I feel pretty confident that I can do it correctly.

So the new 5-string KickAss is *not* a drop in replacement for the bridge on a MIM Jazz??? Because @NicJimBass just barely posted pics of the KickAss on his Jazz 5er and it sure looks like it was a drop in replacement! Is it a MIA vs MIM issue?

For anyone interested, Hipshot is now making the Kickass 5 bridge. I received a couple today, and I love them! Available at bestbassgear.com. Extra special- they make a Squier retrofit version!View attachment 1091159 View attachment 1091160 View attachment 1091161

There is a drop in replacement for a BadAss V, or a Squier retrofit. I'm guessing there's a difference between the Squiers and MIMs.

The Jazz I posted is a Squier VMJ5.

Got one. It's good.

Did you do the install yourself? Did you have to drill new holes or direct replacement?

Do any of you guys have a pic of a p bass w/ the kickass? Just trying to figure out size wise if it looks too big (OCD)

Matt, here's the architectural drawing for a Kickass 4... make a template of the 'footprint', and you can at least approximate...

Here you go. I thought it looked real good on the bass but I ended up not using it. There was nothing wrong with the bridge, it was fine. On this particular bass I just liked the feel and tone of the stock bent plate threaded saddle bridge better. Every bass is different. I also tried the Omega on this bass but the end result was the same. Bent plate rules on this bass.

That it is! Kickass is super adjustable (that's why I'm considering it) but I wish there was a vintage bent plate bridge that was spacing adjustable too..we can't have it all though!

I'm not sure if the vintage style Fender threaded saddle will do 17.5 but with the threaded saddles you do have quite a bit of side to side adjustment of each string. If not retrofit this Hipshot.

Or possibly a Schaller roller bridge 3D-4 They are pretty adjustable for spacing too.
