Hipshot KickAss bridge

Finally got 'clerical errors' sorted out between HipShot and Best Bass Gear... after BBG receives the Kickass 5, still awaiting 3 bass side Gotoh GB7s, before shipping commences...

... maybe spring, fall and winter are better seasons to upgrade your bass?

Slightly disappointed with the Kickass 4, it does not fit directly into my Squier Jazz Bass VM. The screw holes do not line up nicely.

Previously was using the Gotoh 201B-4 and that bridge fits directly. Apparently the spacing between the screw holes for the Squier and Gotoh 201B-4 is 17.5mm (0.688 inches) where as the Kickass is 17.78mm (0.7 inches).

And since the KickAss is a replacement for the BadAss, it wouldn't be right with .688" spacing. Hipshot does post the complete measurements, so the disappointment stems from a lack of research.

Yes i agree, lack of research, should have done that prior to the purchase.

But then again other people shared their experiences saying that this bridge fits with their current standard 5 hole Fender bridge kinda made me "assumed" that the measurement should at least be the same with a Squier JB. Oh well, time to drill new holes.

just wanted to throw in here. i finally broke down and bought one of these for my MIM Jazz. It's quite a bit beefier than the stock one. I thought everyone was a little nutso regarding the sustain deal, but the volume decay off of each note is noticeably better/less. Meaning my notes stay at the initial volume a little longer. I'm sold, and am going to go ahead and order another for the new build I'm working on!

For completeness I decided to measure the weight of all my bridges. Here’s what I got in order from lightest to heaviest

OEM Fender Threaded Rod - 3.1oz
Hipshot Style A Aluminum - 4.5oz
Leo Quan Badass 2 - 7.9oz
Hipshot Kickass - 8.4oz
Hipshot Style A Brass - 9.2oz

The Squier bridges use different spacing than the Fender bridges, and Hipshot makes two different versions of the KickAss for that reason.

So they took a BAII design, machined it out of quality material instead of cheap pressure cast pot metal, gave it actual string spacing adjustments with no need to slot it yourself, and kept it at a reasonable price.

This is why Hipshot is the best in the business as far as guitar/bass hardware goes. No other company is on their level as far as quality, value, and customer service.

The only thing I wish I could add to this bridge is piezo inserts, but I have yet to find any that are a direct fit for the KickAss Bridge insert. If anyone has seen any, please let me know!

Anybody had one of these not hold the height? The second string head I guess keeps losing its height, so after I play hard for a minute, the lower half of the string gets mutey. I guess one of the tiny adjustment screws keeps backing out.

Not an ideal situation, but the careful application of a little blue Loctite on the grub screw will stop it from moving.

Is it just me, or is the bridge is too big for a Jazz Bass? Is there someone who can post a picture of how close the back of the Kick Ass is to the edge of the J-bass body?
