I thought it was dance on the beach naked, which lead me to believe Rollo was going to have something amazing happen to him
You know you might be right. At sometime Rollo might get his own nation if they are basing him somewhat off the historic Rollo.
I have to give props to the costume designers, and the hair stylist Dee Corcoran (who also did the hair styles in Camelot, and The Tudors). I can't get past how beautiful Lagertha is - she is so stunningly beautiful with the braided hair and costume.
Totally. Even all dirty and messy from working on the farm or killing people, she still looks stunning.

From what I've read, it's not actually known that Ragnar Lodbrok ever really existed. It has been theorized that his exploits are actually that of several Viking kings rolled into one. He is credited as being the father of several storied Viking warriors who actually did exsist, but apparently only stories passed down are what remains of whoever the actual Ragnar was.
For some reason, I thought today was Thursday. I ran around after work getting all my errands and chores done, made up something to snack on, and queued up the History Channel on my Roku at 6:55PM PST. I saw American Pickers on and thought that was odd since it's usually Pawn Stars, but OK. The episode ended.....YES! Time to watch the raid on Paris. Then another American Pickers comes on. I thought I had the wrong channel, wrong time, maybe this was a few hours behind on the Roku, wrong something. Then my wife reminded me it is Wednesday. DOH!

I enjoyed it. If you don't want to know what happens in the long run don't look up the history online like I did.
I read for hours about Ragnar, Lagertha, Rollo, Floki, Aella, Ecbert, France, England, Kattegat, Hedeby, Vikings, and so on during the first season when I first got hooked on this show. I don't know how close this is going to go with what I read, but I do see they are keeping Aella around here and there.

It would be hard to tell even if you knew history. Tonight's episode was contradictory to history. But there again, a couple of the people mentioned are composites of others, and lived in different time periods from one another. Ragnar, and Charles the Bald are a few decades early. Ecbert died before Judith was born. In reality she was the daughter of Charles the Bald and was married to Ecbert's son Aethelwulf when she was 14 and Aethelwulf was 53. Alfred the Great was already born by then. Judith's sexual perversion wasn't sleeping with a member of the clergy named Athelstan. It was marrying her step-son Alfred's oldest brother after Aethelwulf died. Once Alfred's oldest brother died, he became King. The real Athelstan was not the father of Alfred, but his grandson who would later unite the various kingdoms in England.
They didn't use the "kabob" joke when the ballistas were fired. How could they not use that? Odo the Count of Paris helped with the defenses but the main guy was the warrior priest Bishop Gozlin. But there again both Odo and Gozlin would be in Rollo's timeline about 40+ years after Ragnar, Charles the Bald, Aethelwulf and Judith. And about 80-90 years after Ecbert.
Judith never had any children in France, but married a Count in Flanders who would later give the Vikings a serious run for their money when they came sailing around the coast of France. Judith would finally have children and become an ancestress to the wife of William the Conquer, who in turn is the decedent of Rollo. Rollo later in his life would make peace with France, who was then be ruled by Charles the Simple. Charles the Simple would give Rouen and Normandy to Rollo in exchange for Rollo and his Vikings to become Charles vassals.
So it would be the line of Rollo and the line of Judith that would change British history, and western history in 1066, with William of Normandy and Matilda of Flanders.

okay skipping over comments until I'm done watching..but I wanna know, how the hell does Rollo never get an arrow to his bare, unprotected chest??? All those arrows raining down on them and I just watched Rollo, Beorn and Ragnar jump out of those boats with no shields are they nuts????
OH wait Beorn isn't dead?? Neither is Rollo or Floki!!! OH THANK THE GODS, I wonder what that scene with Helga was about? We all knew Ragnar was setting Floki up to eat humble pie, mission accomplished. Now...I wonder what would Ragnar have done differently? They needed the ladders to breach the walls and what else was to be done? Paris had the advantage. I wonder what Ragnar would have done? Maybe approach with more caution?
If Ragnar sacrificed so many of his people just to teach Floki a lesson I will question his sanity and not for the first time in this season is his sanity seeming a bit off.
The hot oil...damn, that was quite the move. Gawd....brutal!
As some have said, this is not the historical outcome of that first raid on France. Michael Hirst was sticking closer to actual events in season 1, he's veered away quite a bit now.
What do you guys think the significance of Rollo honing in on the princess of France was about?? Is he smitten? Was he shocked to see her standing there so boldly in the middle of all that violence? And again I must ask...how on earth did he not get an arrow in his chest??? I want to hand him a shield every single time!! She will not soon forget watching bare chested Rollo axe the daylights out of all those Frenchmen, she must be scared as hell of him!!
I also LOVED the way Ragnar threw himself over the walls to escape, what was AWESOME, although watching him cough up blood was a little scary at the end. Generally once you cough up blood you are a deadman...sooooo is Floki going to find him laying on the grass half dead and bring him back to camp to get helped?? Does he have a punctured lung or something?? And how is Beorn alive after having two arrows pierce right through his chest. They must have missed his heart and lungs. The gods protection??!!
