The prophecy about Rollo being present when a bear marrys a princess I interpreted as meaning Rollo would be the Bear, i.e. would marry a princess. That looked like some foreshadowing of this.

I thought Bjorn was dead too!

Regnard is a patient man, Im not sure hes done with Floki left.

Also Porrun finally left=/

I think Ragnar knew there was no way they had a chance when he saw Rollo standing there staring at Gisla, so he bailed. Even though they got over the wall, with Rollo more concerned with Gisla, it was a good idea to retreat.

That was weird with Bjorn, he sure looked dead when Ragnar found him. Yes, it was odd how Rollo stood there at the base of the tower the whole time as arrows killed everyone around him. Then he gets to the top of the wall, fully exposed, wiping out Parisian guards swinging his battle ax around, yet no arrow hits him. I thought that was corny.

My take on Ragnar/Floki is Ragnar is influenced by the Christianity of Athelstan and wanted to let Floki see for himself it isn't all about the gods blessing or condemning your actions.

I am worried about Ragnar and the coughing blood. He took a bad fall. It looks like everything is back to normal next week in the preview, so maybe Ragnar recovers from his damage.

Lagertha and Kalf? That was super awesome when she told him she was going to kill him at some point, but lets enjoy each other now.

OH!! Wait I think you are on to something! Yes...but the bear is BEORN!!! Beorn is the Scandinavian word for bear is it not?? Given that Thorinn/Poruun took off and left her child behind he is free to do as he wishes now. (I thought she was more brave than that, had more depth, her idol Laegertha never would have left her infant child no matter how big a scar was on her face)

Yes he did look quite dead! Until Ragnar was dragging him back to the camp and he was having nerve twitches each time he got bumped around a bit (damn strong dude to survive that!) then I had a feeling he was not dead. But those two arrows looked like they were in there deep!!

I had the take that Ragnar was carrying that cross as a token of his disgust for the Christians after they sacked the Viking settlement in Wessex. He is out for revenge against all Christians now I think. He might very well stick that cross into Ecberts eye when he sees him again. (next season is gonna be wild!) I don't think he is all that interested or taken with Christianity. But I do think he is beginning to question any god/gods at all. And so is Floki at this point. He was condemning the gods when he was under that wooden structure, I still don't know how he got out of there alive and unburned.

2 more episodes to go???? How can that be?? This show needs to be longer.

And oh yes Mike, I thought that was so cool between Kalf and Lagertha!! He didn't know what the hell to think of that. I think she might have done well to keep that little plan to herself though. He did save her life in that hallway, I still don't quite get what happened there do you?? Where they trapped in there? It was a slaughter! Is it because they had no room to fight? Why did they go in there, it was obviously a trap! And did Horik's son get killed in there??

So much unfinished business will be left when this season is done. We already know they got signed for season 4, it feels like way too long to wait almost a year between seasons. Gawd!

Ragnar was dressing more like a monk episode before last. And at the end of the episode last night he was talking to Athelstan in his mind. "Where is this everything you told me about?"

To Ragnar is probably seeing a difference between Athelstan and Ecbert as far as beliefs go. I don't think he is out for revenge against all Christians.

That battle was based on the historical battle at the bridge over the Siene that in reality lasted two days. In the show the Vikings end up in an roofed area of the bridge and head for the drawbridge and the gates of Paris. accept the French have balistas waiting on them. In record it is recorded that one balista bolt went through seven Vikings.

Kalf knew they were running to their death and tried to stop Lagertha a few times. She kept marching forward, so he knocked her out to get her away and save her life.

I don't get why the Vikings went from this aggressive and powerful force to this wimpy and cowardly group, running away at shows of strength from the enemy. I figured they would have taken the initial onslaught when the drawbridge dropped, then charged into the Parisian soldiers with full force. It surprised me to see so many running away. Maybe since Ragnar wasn't there to lead them, they fought differently? The Vikings from previous episodes would not have run away like that.

I agree with your earlier comment about that being an intense episode. I watched it two more times today, fully knowing what happens, and my heart was still racing.

Isn't it obvious? Rollo plays a Thunderbird.

Rollo honed in on the princess because he could tell she was who the troops were rallying for. His plan was to kill her, but with an axe he had to get to her first.

OH!! Okay that makes sense now, he saw that she was holding them together and inspiring them, I get it, yes. That makes sense.

Right, that makes me respect not only his intuition as a warrior, but makes me feel he is a good leader and that he truly does care about Laegertha even though he stole her earldom. I like Kalf actually. Maybe he will end up being a real ally for them. And he is a fine looking man.

Didn't matter how tough you were. Taking walled cities back in the day was really tough. Especially with thousands of arrows being shot at the attackers from fortified positions, hot oil, rocks, and spearman backing the archers on the walls and forming phalanx positions in front of gates. Up to this point the Vikings had never tried anything like Paris. That hallway scene showed just how naive they were to the trickery of dark ages defenders. The siege towers being engulfed in flames would have been shocking to them. They put a lot of pride in those towers, and to see them go up in smoke like that, while avoiding crossbow fire would have damaged their confidence.
