My line doesn't go through Rolo. I just came across what he was doing when Ragnar's son's were out and about. My line goes like this.

Gorm Geva <- Harthacnut <- Sigurd <- Ragnar

I was just now thinking. Sigurd and Ivar both had physical defects. That's a pretty high ratio for just 2 people. Both those kids were from Aslaug. Maybe something was wrong with her.

I predicted he would fake his death and get into Paris but...I didn't actually think he was sick, turns out he really is. I don't understand though, because if he has the plague he should be dead by now. No one lives from the plague for a month. I'm half way through this episode...

Augh!!! He offered her hand that is going to make Rollo VERY happy!!! In time she will like being a viking :) but I don't see how on earth offering the hand of one woman would stop them, they don't care about that, they want victory. The only way will be to do something like what Ecbert did, and invite them to assimilate within their city. Give them land, let them stay. Season 4...they will have to deal with Ecbert and France.

Awesome episode!! I KNEW that Ragnar's Christian baptism wasn't just personally motivated but had some strategic value! I loved this episode but kinda think that Ragnar should have taken further advantage of holding the French king and princess hostage to kill all nobles and royalty that would propose an obstacle to future raids; there's no way that the Paris could mount an effective defense against the Northmen in the spring if all of their commanders and leadership was killed off six months earlier.

I'm also surprised that the King didn't send the gold payoff to the Vikings after it had been handled by those dying of plague; I would have thought that he (or the Princess and the Count) would have wanted to take advantage of the devastating effects of plague of that time since the Vikings would have no way to defend against it...especially considering that the French military force seems to rely far too much on the combination of it's high walls and ranged weapons to effectively fight hand-to-hand with the Vikings.

Grrr...how long do we have to wait for the next season?!

Yes, we must wait till 2016 for season four. Bummer.

I think Ragnar only intended to prove to his people, specifically Rollo/Floki/Lagertha, that he is still 'the man' by sneaking into Paris. I got that impression by how he told the king 'I win', then leaving once the raid started.

I think it's odd how Ragnar, Bjorn, and their warriors were able to keep that attack a secret from the others.

I think that the secrecy of the raid from Ragnar's "inner circle" speaks volumes about how much the Northmen respect Ragnar, especially in recent light of the failure of Loki's towers to help them scale the walls of Paris. I really hope Ragnar is able to overcome his injuries and we see his character develop further, in particular now that he has successfully raided Paris and still has to deal with the betrayal of the King of Wessex in destroying the Viking farmlands and killing the Viking people. My guess is that word of Ragnar's raid of Paris will reach the King of Wessex and put the "fear of Odin" into him.

It'll be interesting to see how things go between Rollo and the French Princess. I couldn't help but laugh at her acting like a spoiled high-school girl, so firmly clinging to inflexible ideals without any real experience of ruling/managing people and stringing along that poor Count. My guess is that she's either going to have to grow up really quick or be put in her place by Rollo, the Count, the French Emperor or all of the above.

I didn't see that coming, but I thought something was up after the private chat in the tent ... just didn't know what. The infiltration into the temple seemed a little Trojan horse-esque to me. Slick going Ragnar.

I'm quite curious about what will transpire between Rollo, and the princess - she just loathes him which I find a rather humorous way to start a relationship. It will be interesting.

Did it say where they were heading at the end; back to Wessex or ... ?

Sagagirl; you're right about the black plague - no one lives long after contracting the disease so I'm wondering if this is what ails Ragnar or something else? I'm also wondering why the other Vikings aren't sick.

Solarmist they are going back to Kattegat. Hopefully Ragnar will recover fully, I wish the writers had been more clear about what is wrong with Ragnar. i want to watch it again because when the Franks came to the Viking camp to inquire into why they hadn't left after the money had been paid, Bjorn said their king was not able to travel long distances because he was too sick, but maybe he said he was injured. I think he said he was sick. He had a fever for sure because we saw him laying in fetal position sweating and shaking. Then we saw him vomit but I also want to look again at the opening scene of the episode before the last episode. It looked like he was standing up, with his pants down, and we heard something fall to the ground (like as if he had diarrhea or had pee'd something large out of his body (sorry for the graphics!!!) Mike mentioned he thought maybe a kidney was damaged from the fall he took off the wall and that maybe he has some other kind of infection. That makes sense. I wonder if on the History Channel site they might clarify with a mini video or something.

We've got a long year of waiting ahead.

That's an interesting thought!! Yes, why not just infect the vikings with tainted gold?? Although maybe they didn't understand the concept of communicable disease yet? I think during the dark ages they thought the plague was like a curse from the devil or something and didn't know it could be communicated.

I think Mike / Boom763 are onto what really ails Ragnar as well, and the blown kidney scenario seems more likely because no one lives through the black plague. I can't really see the History Channel doing away with the lead character either.

I'll have to watch it again too, and what the heck ... it's going to be the last one for a while ...

No. I am basing my opinion on the fall he took when he voluntarily jumped off the wall. He hit the stone wall on one side, then bounced off that wall and landed on his back/kidney area on that long wooden rail that was part of their siege tower, then flopped down to the ground on his back where he didn't move for a second, then caught his breath and opened his eyes. Broken ribs, internal bleeding, infections, internal organ damage. I am sure all of those are at play on his sickly condition. He may be sick, but I don't think he has the black plague.
