Hit Me with your Fav Dirt

EVEN MORE.

Yoooo not confusing at all. The last decade has been a weird swirling and mixing of so many different heavy/fringe styles and it's super rad. Neurosis, Isis, Sunno and a bunch of late 90s-early 00's kicked the door open, and now you got bands like Deafheaven slamming indie, doom, and blackmetal together, or like newer blackened examples Portrayal of Guilt or Respire. All kinds of different things going on at the same time, and it all totally works.

I've been swimming in the ocean of dirt for many years, and this is the current trifecta of the best of the best to my ears.

YO! These pedals ARE great. I thought they exactly hit the spot with my Terrorbass 1000, but since I swapped over to the Meatsmoke, their use and character are a bit different, causing me to re-evaluate my options.

I recently got a Meatsmoke Preamp pedal and its OD channel made me start to rethink a lot about my current dirt selection :)

And as far as the Rat thing goes, for my personal taste, I really cant get that overly abrasive character out of other pedals I've owned and I've found it stacks really well with other drives. I personally use a Dunwich Volt Thrower

So, in looking at everything again I was reminded that back when I started first really examining dirt pedals, my first instinct was the FAT RAT, but something about the high mid levels in all the demos made me rethink.

And also, y'all, I think I'm going with a Lil' Fella / Gray Stache combo from Fuzzrocious. Big thanks to @rratajski for the kind guidance.

hey ol buddy ol pal, long time no see and wish we were playing shows together like a year and a half ago

I am happy to report that the Aguilar Agro I got to follow my Darkglass B7k is perfect for the tone I'm going for. I've found that the Agro is far more customizable than I expected. You can also flip the order and go Agro > B7K, but I like the other way around. I use the B7k for its preamp and a tiny amount of drive, and then put on the mean stuff with the Agro.

you can hear it in action on this release, particularly on "Sin Boldly/Laugh It Off" :)
(kindly disregard the "we need a bassist" note on the right - they found their bassist)

I didn't know you played bass on the 3 Tabs! Man... what a world.

I love my Darkglass Alpha Omicron and my Malekko B:Assmaster. The former is great for subtle, transparent distortion, and the latter goes anywhere from classic Muff fuzz, to woolly, to just plain nasty. When I have them both on at the same time... ooo man. It's not totally practical but it is awesome. (Should mention: I always have my SansAmp BDDI v2 on– really beefs things up).

The Tone Mob/SolidGoldFX Model 001 Fuzz Generator goes from overdrive to fuzz, and sounds great doing it all. Plenty of low end on tap. It's surprisingly versatile.

Also: Jacques Mercer Box - this version:

OH HELL YEA! Thanks for skillfully rolling through the sweet tones! I'm really stoked and think the sonic range of that lil guy is gonna fit in just right. The Gray Stache is just a bonus haha

Fwiw, my favorite are:

OD - Pork Loin, SS/BS Mini, Keeley Super Phat Mod
Distortion - SS/BS Mini, EBS FuzzMo
Fuzz - Zvex Mastotron, Swollen Pickle, SS/BS Mini

Yep, the Mini is the Swiss army knife of dirt. An essential pedal. I've already traded the Mastotron and the Pickle, and I'm using the Mini as my fuzz for now.

Pork Loin is still my favorite OD. Lots of fuzz I've yet to try (Fuzzrocious Grey Stache and Baby Furnace, MXR Sub Machine, Orange Fur Coat), so we'll see.

The SS/BS mini really fit right in with my TB1000, but different head, different world. I may just be dumb about fiddling, but for some reason I just can't quite get it to hit the spot I want. It might just be that I'm bored and want to mess around with something new, so I'm not selling it, just swapping it out for now.

The Mini can work anywhere in a chain, even as clean boost. Good call to keep it! Hope one day or clicks for you.

One thing I really enjoy is, using if as a fuzz, diming the gain and having the bias fully CCW. Becomes gated and full velcro. With both gain and bias dimed, the fuzz is much more round and warm. Plays really well with envelope filter. Just a fantastic fuzz on its own.

As an OD, it gets close to what the Pork Loin does, and can be brighter bc of its EQ. Maybe I'm keeping the Pork Loin bc I don't have two Minis.

Andy, that OB1-500's DI sounds great... just stomps the old school TB ones. I had to go back and recheck what you were running it through.
