Hit Me with your Fav Dirt

I've been down the boutique rabbit hole, but now I find what I'm looking for in stacking pedals. I get a much more characterful tone that sits well in a mix and doesn't drop lows.
My current faves are
Joyo orange juice
Caline orange burst
Orange getaway driver
Bass soul food
Hardwire tube od
Ibanez bass tube screamer.

i start with either the joyo or bsf as a core 'edgy' tone and then add either the caline or orange to create a complex raspy or saturated tone with lots of top end and no loss of lows.

Want to keep lows??.

Damnation Audio MBD-2

As little or as much gain as you want, and as little or as much lows as you want with the Depth knob
this!

For light to medium gain I looove the MBD-2!

For muffs I'm very happy with the EHX Green Russian reissue.

I'm still looking for my favourite fuzz. The malekko b:assmaster is arriving today, so who knows

I play a Damnation Audio MBD1 into a 200 watt Verellen Meat Smoke. That's pretty much all I've bothered using for dirt since I got the MBD1. It always cuts through the mix even in our dense rehearsal space. Can do overdrive too. Keep in mind it is a Mosfet distortion so it can sound pretty nasty on it's own, but in the mix it never fails where many pedals have. I'd recommend the MBD2 as it's newer. I also like the Malekko Diabalik, but that's more of a fuzz.

So that's a Li'l Fella and GS in one box? Does it go up to 18v like the standalone LF?

I haven't dived in to the build yet to see whether I need to charge pump the Li'l Fella or if the GS will function well at 18V. IIRC the last time I tried GS at 18, it was not great.

I actually found that LF and GS together didn't work well in my setup, so I'm interested to see what you do with the double build!

I get some gnarly sounds with both pedals at lower gain when paired up, especially with the gate active. Not every setting/situation will match up, so it makes sense!

So many recs for the DA MBD. I'll have to put it on my future GAS for when I build out my spaceship and throw every dirt pedal I own on it for some reason hahaha. I'm running the same head as you.

So in my current config and for my band's disco, I don't have any songs where both the fuzz and OD are active at the same time, so that's not a major concern - though I will be playing with them of course to see what nastiness I can do. I like the single box in terms of shortening the signal path (for now) and free up a little space. I have a lot of exploring to do via both channels and pedals.

Not exactly, and got to admit I am not all to familiar with newer sub-genres of music either.

(and a lot more...)

I just realized you were from Denmark! If you haven't already checked them, give a listen to Portrayal of Guilt () and Respire (). Both are "blackened" but approach things differently. Both also feature really really cool "gazey" quiet/atmospheric parts and grindy parts.

I quite like Respire, just heard the whole album.

Reminds me a lot of Fall of Efrafa, and somewhat of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, but then again Fall of Efrafa was partially inspired by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, so that adds up...

Totally - like everything is kinda mixing together these days - specifically in the "hardcore" subgenres - and I frikken love it.

Exactly! I won't lie... I saw so many running the MBD2, so I checked it out... I was at the point of giving up on finding a dirt I liked...

Hit YouTube for the MBD2... o_O
I honestly didn't get it...everything I heard sounded horrible...reached out to a few folks on here, and the assured me it'd be great for what I wanted... within a couple of days, one popped up in the classifieds... scooped it, and BOOM!!! Absolutely perfect! IMHO..I don't believe there's a bad sound in it..

I just wish Damnation would pop out a Fuzz.. I'd definitely grab one no questions asked..
But for now, I'm gonna grab a SS/BS TAFM for fuzz needs

So... at practice last night, knowing I had the new pedal coming, I decided to fiddle with both the TFR and the Mini... granted I was using the practice space SVT classic (fine but, y'all know). So pointless long story short, got both sounding gnarly and nice so I've made the decision to do the only logical thing - buy a bigger pedalboard to accommodate the new addition. Cuz why wouldn't I want a board with 4.5 dirt pedals?

I seem to remember mention of DA Fuzz pedal being in the pipeline.

I think it was delayed, but thought it was announced around the same time as the recently released DIST2 Curmudgeon.

Might have been called the Chainsaw, unless I'm totally misremembering...
