Hobbies that cost more than playing bass

the advantage of the horse thing is that it provides me with a lot of leverage with the missus:

"You're going to build another cabinet/get more strings/etc?".

"Yeah, and how much is that dressage horse running us again each month?".

The silence that comes with her recognizing the truth is deafening, bringing to peace to the kingdom as I walk out the door to the lumber yard/music store/etc. spending a small fraction of her monthly $ outlay :smug:

OK, let's give up playing bass and find something else to do, like fishing, $30k bass boat, $30k truck to pull it, storage, insurance, rods, reals, tackle boxes, on and on. Too much?
Try golf, $1500 set of irons, $400 driver, $500 bag, shoes, clothes, $75 greens feed, club membership. Too much?
Lets try hunting, land leases, vehicles, guns, ammo. Too much?
Think Ill just keep playing the bass.

Being a bass player isn't an expensive hobby. In fact, you can actually make money. Being a collector of musical instruments and related gear is. :)

Im sure NYCbassist will agree. Restoring old Mopars is way more pricey !

Cycling. My wife and I are both avid mountain bike racers...

I don't think I really want to add up the money we've spent on bikes and related accessories, race fees, travel costs, etc, in the past couple of years, but it's surely north of $25k. And, that's taking into account the fact that I work for a bike company and get amazing prices...

My bass habit is cheap, in comparison.

As if the kit and altimeter wasn't pricey enough, I could eat for a month in NYC (or buy a new Squier and a change of strings) on the cost of the propellant it takes to launch that thing.

I am about 3k deep in beer making so... :D

I think some people are just obsessive and want the "best" stuff or "just gotta have it" in personality. It is no surprise that these people turn into musicians.

I will never own a new car but man do I have some awesome gear!
