HOCKEY FIGHTS!

Plus you can get 10 minute miscondact for fighting... its up to the ref...

In olympic hockey fighting is not tolarated though... I dont care much for fighting though... its nice once in a while but too much ruins it... I think good check is much more fun to watch... especially open ice...

Plus potentially an extra 2 minutes for instigating... so depending on the circumstances a player could get anywhere between 5 and 17 minutes in the penalty box.

I'm not sure about international rules, but I can't imagine it's very different in the Olympics. Maybe you get a game misconduct as well?

As for the classics... Colorado vs Detroit has to be one of the most epic battles I've seen. Ottawa vs Philladelphia last season was ridiculous as well, they had full line brawls three lines in a row right off the faceoff. There were practically no players left by the end that hadn't been ejected, and Ottawa's Jason Spezza somehow set (and still holds) the franchise penalty minute record for something like 27 minutes in a single period.

I hold a similar record to Spezza's for the local Northern Illinois Hockey League. I was in the corner scrumming for a puck with 2 guys already on me, and a third came in a started giving me his stick in the small of my back. I didn't like that too much, so for some reason (I still am not quite sure why) I turned around and gave him 5 rights to the head. I was immediately ejected and my team assessed two 5 minute majors, a 10 minute game misconduct, another 5 minute fighting penalty, and to top it all off a 2 minute minor for roughing. Not one of my finer moments on the ice.
I sat out the next 3 games. When I came back I was a very good boy for the rest of the season. :D

I love it. When the two players are just peed at each other. They can't wait to kill. The fight breaks out. The reffs break it up and then the two guys are laughing and having a great time. Hockey should be a model for the hole world.

I remember one time. Someteam was playing Detroit and a fight broke out and everyone was just peed to no end. The capton of the other team is just steaming. He is so intense at the faceoff. That he breaks his stick and good old Stevey just starts laughing and the hole crowd breaks out laughing. Tension was gone after that.

Oh god yes.

I love the one back in 97' when Lemieux got battered by McCarty and turtled like a little girl.

At the same time Roy got his face split open by little Mike Vernon.

Yep, I remember that well. You could see McCarty telling Lemieux he was gonna go as soon as the opening puck was dropped, and then he did.

This is why hockey will never me as mainstream as the other major sports..... :hiding:

Seriously, who's going to take the family out to see some toothless goons pummel eachother?

Sportscenter doesn't help the situation, frequently during the shows opening barrage of video images they show a variety of sports with athletes doing amazing things, and then when it comes to hockey they show fighting clips. Hockey has more to offer than that.
