HOCKEY FIGHTS!

This is why hockey will never me as mainstream as the other major sports..... :hiding:

Seriously, who's going to take the family out to see some toothless goons pummel eachother?

Sportscenter doesn't help the situation, frequently during the shows opening barrage of video images they show a variety of sports with athletes doing amazing things, and then when it comes to hockey they show fighting clips. Hockey has more to offer than that.

Baseball frequently has bench clearing brawls and it's doing alright. Perhaps fights are only ok if the people involved don't know how to throw a good punch?

Basketball has it's share of fights, including ones with players going after fans, and it's doing ok.

Football is essentially 3 hours of two teams beating the crap out of each other.

I find it hard to believe that this argument is a valid one for hockey not being in the mainstream (in the States).

I think what hurts hockey is it hasn't adopted the NBA's attitude of protecting it's stars. But I don't think the fighting hurts attendance at least not in Detroit. Heck if we didn't have the Red Wings here we'd have to send all our thugs down to Toledo to start a riot with the Nazi's or something. :D

Damn I miss Darren Mccartney (and grinder)
