I'm sure that sounds great as well. Which roundwounds do you like best on a Hofner?

I just buy the cheap Hofner branded roundwounds. They are okay, cheap and I know they will fit. So I can a lot of them and change them out often. I am just a hobbyist, and if I wasn't I would likely spend more on my strings. I usually get a lot of compliments on my tone.

It is. Hofner has officially announced it themselves.

The bass looks like a mess, and the person who had it had no clue how important the bass is. It could have easily ended up in a landfill.

I'm pleased he got it back all the memories of Hamburg, Liverpool and, the first singles and Albums. And the famous Hamburg picture that started my love affair with this bass.

I believe one of the reports said it was strung right handed. I wonder how much of it will be original after it is fixed up.

Rubbing alcohol will the it off. Try something higher than 70%

Wanted to check back in, took a bit of elbow grease at 70% but it worked perfectly. Thanks!

I should share some pics of my Hofner project. I started 5 years ago, but divorce, pandemic and such slowed my progress significantly. I am up an running with the project again. It is my first Ignition which I am now converting into a fretless version of Macca's Revolution bass. I have a thread dedicated to the project, but I can post updates here too.

Has anyone compared flats from labella, ghs, and pyramid on their hofner? I’ve got pyramids on here, debating doing some more string experiments.

labella beatle bass .39-.96
Labella beatle bass .50-.100
Labella low tension flats medium scale .43-.100
Ghs precision flats medium scale .45-.95

Those are the 4 I’m interested in. Other than the 2 light tension labella sets the ghs and .50 labella are top heavy and bottom light so to speak. I’m used to the more balanced tension of the pyramids, I’m wondering how that works.

lemme know which ones you tried and the tone and feel you got. I welcome any and all opinions. I don’t want to buy all 4, I’d probably just get a labella beatle set, but options options options

I had the Hofner flats on my violin. I always hear they are the Pyramids under another name. For me, they were just a little too heavy (100 or 105) on the low side for this light bass. Bought the Labella Beatles 96, love them. Great tone, great balance. A little smoother, too.
