Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

A friend of mine owns this lovely 1963 Hofner 500/1, with a feature I haven't seen on any other Violin bass. It has 2 strips going down the neck I've never seen this before have any of you seen this or own 1 like it? Like me he's owned this bass for decades and is defiantly not for sale.
I was thinking that the late-model Contemporary violins and Clubs I'd seen lately had laminated necks with dark (probably walnut) stringers.
They do, but it's only a single line down the middle of the neck. Not as ornate as this...

Those types of neck usually went on the upgraded 5000/1 model. Sometimes parts are lying around the shop and hence can be put on other models. I suspect that is what happened in this case.
Yeah but this was 1963 and the Violin bass was, no where near as popular as it was going to become. My only guess is that whoever at the Hofner factory who made this neck, had been doing this on a fancy guitar & ended up doing it on this bass as well.

I bought a Greenline about 1 1/2 years ago. I find the 2 vol 1 tone enough to get a very wide variety of sounds. If I max the volumes, the output is quite hot. Most of the time, I roll back a notch on Bridge or Neck then spice up the sound with a bit of the other pickup. It is my main gigging instrument since I got it.
lovely. do you have or have you played a regular hofner? can you cop the bass on switch sound with the green line? its front pickup only with a treble cut.
A half tone roll off or max the front vol gets you there easy enough. But be careful, those H513B blade pickups are heaps hotter at 10 than 8. I have to stand near my mic at 8 to 10 feet from my amp to avoid feedback at max vol (but my band is quite loud).
I usually have to roll the amp bass eq down to 8 or 9 o'clock to avoid ruining the mix. It is just so bassy. But then, I am running 1200 watts of Phil Jones Bass cabs.

I have blade pickups on my 68 500/1. They are hot! But I love the tone. They are actually single coil pickups, and therefore produce a different tone than other models.
No action in this Group for some time. Just thought I'd wake it up.
