I have TIs on both of my 500/1 HCTs with no problems. But I did have it done by a pro.

You should be able to replace the saddle frets with new frets, no?

Yes but the bridge itself is chewed up. They don't stay in the slots very tightly

I brought a set to a pro before and he refused to put them on. I even had the hofner specific set. He said he wouldn't do it because the scale length (he was wrong) and the hole in the tuner being too small

I have had a variety of strings on my Hofners with no issues, so I am unsure why the pro reacted that way. A Hofner specific set is best just to nail the scale length, but I have even put on some strings that were not Hofner specific. The issue I had in the case was the wrap being on the nut. I had no issues with the strings not fitting in the wholes. I should mention that I have German Hofners, an HCT and two Ignitions.

I would like to join the group . I recently received my violin bass and strung it up with Labella Black Nylon Tapewounds and dig it ALOT. I run my amp clean with it and it sounds fantastic .
It is my first short scale and I am glad I chose a Höfner .

If one of you guys knows where to pick one new or used (preferably in Europe) i would gladly join the club

Situation is the same in every shop i searched...

But i tend to be skeptical about the "pay today and receive your item in x weeks" marketing, been there before and waited months sometimes hearing about how the manufacturer was to blame... :/

Thomann used to have that model. Marnic is a trusted dealer, but I am unsure of the delivery times.

My local big box store just took in a CT violin bass. Clean and beautifully set up, for a very attractive price.

I was surprised to find that I much prefer my Ignition. The wider neck may not be authentic, but it actually answers one of my biggest objections to the German models.

Also, the center block means that the CT would be better on on loud stages, but I prefer the livelier, more acoustic feel of the modded Ignition.

i just got my 1965 Hofner Club 500/2 back from the luthier, he had it for 5 months, it was "on the backlog" due for a neck reset, neck is fixed and she is home and getting played regularly!! i can't wait to bring her to a gig. Due to her beautiful tobacco-ish sunburst, i've named her "Sunny". love the Bobby Hebb tune so it's fitting.

i just replaced the knobs with authentic hofner ones. It's player's grade, but that's what i am, i gig regularly and so i didn't want a case queen. also i'm cheap so the beat up ones are cheaper

Ignition Club Pro

Mint condition (still has the protective foam under the bridge and plastic on the pickups), lightly used and affordable. It needed a setup and I'm not a fan of the strings so I will be replacing them with Labella nylon tapewounds.

Just ordered a new German control panel for my contemporary . I tried the Labella Black tapewounds but did not care for them so I recently installed a new set of Pyramid flats and they are breaking in .
Question for those more knowledgeable here than me . Will the German control panel make a true difference in tone ?

I haven't A/B them before (though I do own a Contemporary as well as a couple of Icon/Ignition and a German-made model). but, I think the pots have a lot to do with the change in sound. the current crop of pots for the German-made models seems to be of pretty high quality.

but, according to YouTuber, BackBeat Vintage, he seems to think there is a big difference in sound between the CT and German-made control panels.
