Kinetic Shadow you are member 103. Welcome to the group. You do have an affection for black.

May I join? It's the one in the middle. ;) I've blacked out the control plate and pickguard since this photo was taken. I kind of have this thing for black instruments.

Also, could use some help on replacement tuners. The ones that came stock with the H500/1-CT are a little hard to turn. Found these, but not sure if they will work with this model:

Thanks Ed, it's a very different beast than I'm used to (Shorter scale and 0 fret), but really enjoying it. First order of business was to learn Day Tripper, at my dad's behest, then figured out Sympathy for the Devil. Mind you both songs are way out of the normal spectrum of music I play, but there's something about the Hofner that makes you want to play some of the classics.

The Hofner Hounds Forum is a great resource for all things Hofner. These Brits know their Hofner's and are available to date and identify vintage Hofner's.

Excellent, thank you. Seems for such an iconic bass that information is hard to come by.

And, drumroll... Here is the Hofner, now dubbed Scarab with the control plate and pg blacked out - just not a white pearloid guy and there's no way I'm stripping down the finish to redo the binding in black.

I have the CT Beatle bass and it has the german pickups and boy they are HOT! Anyone else notice this?

I have been playing it into a 70's V-4 head that only has one volume per channel. I lowered the pups a little but did not want to sacrifice definition. Maybe I'll try a 12at7 or 12au7 in channel 2. When I gig, I am using an Ashdown head with a VT pedal so I have more flexibility.

Why are you dumping it? Did you swap out the switches or just the plastic?

I need the cash for other gear...basically the only reason I sell anything. I love this bass and it's a keeper, but I have a chance for something I've wanted for years.

Anyway, my bass, has German pickguard, control plate, german switches and tea cups, but the electronics remain the same. They imo are just as good as my German Hofner so I saw no reason to change the actual electronics. All the works been done so someone is going to get a killer deal.

Hey; I've been reading some earlier posts and fond some interesting notes. If you're taking more members I think I might qualify with a 5000/1-R and a 500/2 CT. Heres a couple of shots taken from my phone.

Steve, I was going to close membership down at 105 so I guess you are in. :D Just joking, we welcome Hofner owners and Hofner wannabes. We all like our instruments and want to show that they are more than a one trick pony. Welcome as member 105 and nice looking Hofners.
