Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group

This is an open invitation to all Hofner owners and wannabe owners to join together to share information and the love of these wonderful basses from the German originals and reissues to the Far East manufactured instruments, i.e., Icons and Contemporarys. All are welcome. I am new to Hofners having just purchased a 500/1 v63 and an Icon. In searching on the web for information on the company and their instruments I found an active group in the UK and not much else. I am hoping that with the depth of knowledge in the TB forum that we can all help each other whether it be with gear selection, strings, amps and cabs, effects, modifications, valuations and dating, anything and everything Hofner.

I'm with you, brother. I suspect there may already be a Hofner group on TB, but either way, I'm in. I have a '67 500/1 with black tapewound strings and i juts got a 1964 Hofner Senator.

What brand of tapes do you have corinpills? I had a Douglas that I had GHS tapes. They were the only ones I could find that had an E string at .105. All the rest were at .115. I liked the sound of them but opted to go with LaBellas on the black cherry Icon and Thomastiks on the blue one.

Honestly, I don't know They were on it when I bought it and love the way they sound.

I think they give the closest stand up bass sound you can get.

I currently own four Hofner Icons for my 50s band: in 'burst, black, white, and pink!

That's it above, but here's a less artsy-fartsy version of the photo that shows more of the bass. I play through lovely Trace Elliot V6- the all tube beastie that doesn't have lime green all over it. It's a pretty deep sounding combination- I could get into some Sly & Robbie territory with this rig.
