That man has a sick collection of basses! I'd give everything I had for just three of them in particular.
I'm not sure what year it is. It's a German Custom Shop violin tint that I purchased on eBay a little over a year ago. I'll have to get back to you on the year.

Count me in! Here's my Club. One thing I have noticed aside from Beatles music is that the Hofner really excels at Reggae. It has a great tone for that type of music.

Hey, while I'm here, I'm in need of a replacement pick-up. One of mine is dead (the bridge).
Any one know where I can score a replacement or know who makes an aftermarket one (long shot I know)??

I just finished setting up the Icon received today. The intonation is about spot on but I cannot get the action as low as I would like. It appears that it has a high 13th fret. Aside from that the finish is well executed and the fret work other than the 13th is excellent. It really needs flats for the sound that I want. It has been two years since I payed rounds and it just reminded me why. Played for a while and got somewhat comfortable with the neck and the controls. I am trying to like it. But so far, it really isn't doing it for me. It is one of those things where you know it is the right bass or not within a few minutes of sitting down with it. My Gibson and my other Hofner were just like that. Almost instant intimacy with the instrument. This one I am having to work way too hard. I am not sure whether to order new strings and try again or just send it back. Help, advice????

Action is decidedly high and i like it. I remember the first Hofner (and the first bass) i played in 1975, and his action wasn't high, it was stellar, near unplayable.
On mine, intonation is good and the fretboard is perfect, maybe the better thing.
The flaws are others: screws that don't work no more, low quality wood, crappy binding...

MikeBass, have you considered just getting it rewound? Could be the best alternative and much less expensive. Lindy Fralin can hook you up for $120 ( $60 per coil ) and you'd still retain the original pup. Sweet Club, BTW!

Another vote for getting the old one rewound.
Good chances are that only one bobbin needs to be rewound. That way You'll keep the pickup as stock as possible. Matching isn't usually any problem as the broken one is reverse engineered.
Check German e-bay also for staple pickups. Those babies were used on several basses, not just on Höfners, and can sometimes be had for peanuts. Mine was 30 IIRC and came from late 60's Burns AFAIK.
If all else fails, I have a -67 lonely staple side coil...

I know what you mean. When I got my ICON, I thought...wow a BeatleBass, then within 5 mins I was trying to make myself like it. I thought that it was because I'm just beginning to play bass,but I just couldn't dig it enough. They are nice...very nice and great for the price. It was close to the classic, too close not to be closer if that makes since. It was complete opposite when I got my CT shown in this thread 2 days ago. It was like love at first sight. I'm not knocking the ICON,but from the finish to the neck to the pickups, the CT just kills the ICON. THis is just my experience and opinion though. I would still encourage anyone to pick up the Icon,but for me, the CT rocks it. I had a chance last night to put mine side by side with a V63 and the owner of that one and I couldn't even really tell them apart until we picked them up.

I just recently started playing bass. The second I picked one up I knew it was the type of bass I wanted to get. I don't have any pictures......only one of my dog with the case. He's a black lab and seems to think the case is another black lab, because whenever I play the bass, he lies down next to the case to listen.

Before I bought my v63 I played an Epi Violin Bass acoustically at GC for about 30 min and it felt great. I got a good deal on the the Icon and felt that it should be at least as good as the Epi or possibly better based on the reviews here on TB. I guess that my expectations were higher for this bass than they should have been. Oh well GAS satisfied for now. I may have to check out a Contemporary Club.
I've played the Epiphone. It was nice, reminded me a lot of my Rogue viola. The Hofner Ignition/Icon seems to me to be a little less consistent in terms of fit and finish, but I like the tone better. It seems to get deeper lows than my Rogue. Makes me wonder if the Rogue has a block in it like the Hofner contemporary, because it's also heavier than the Ignition.

Here's a picture since you asked! Toby is actually my dog's name and he really seems to see the bass case as his buddy. He always sits by it when I play, which my son thinks is hilarious. He would love to join Sprocket as a Hofner mascot.
