Hohner Jack custom new preamp and pickups

Hi all

Random question.
I have an 80s Hohner Jack Bass custom (headless with 2x EMG select J pickups).
Bass is in great condition.
Previous owner hardly played it and stored it for 30 years.

BUT preamp has died and I’d like to spend a ‘small’ amount of money upgrading first preamp and then maybe pickups? I think the bass itself is worth a small/moderate investment.
Plus (as is often the case) the battery cover went missing…

So here’s the question-I’m after suggestions for a replacement pre amp and possibly pickups to upgrade it properly. With minimal work/routing etc.

Currently there’s a double size battery compartment (needs changing out as cover is missing and can’t get a replacement) with a tiny preamp module in a 9V battery sized case.

Controls are in a seperate cavity with the following controls:

Active on/off toggle switch with red LED
Vol-vol-stacked treble/bass

Ideally would like to keep the LED and same layout (but happy with vol/pan/bass and treble or similar)?

Any suggestions?

TIA (based in UK)
