Hold me back!

My Inner Adult is screaming from the chair in the closet where he's tied up that no good can come of reaching out to this poor guy, who only needs everything, and advising him to revise. Please help him convince me!

If you want to do all the work of running a band for someone else, that's certainly possible (see: BAND MANAGER). There is something to be said for making efforts on other people's behalf, simply because it needs doing, and you wish to see it done. You may find, however, that your willingness expires before their expectations ... and you certainly should not expect anything in return (though you may be rewarded many times over).

I've been watching the local Craigslist for about a year and a half, and met a handful of good cats. This poor guy has been posting this same ad, verbatim, weekly, and I really want to reach out to him in a helpful way to tell him that:
1. Everyone has seen his ad, and if nobody has responded it's time for a rewrite.
2. The copy, while demanding 'excellent communication', is extremely garbled.
3. The tone is a Red Flag waving a bunch of red flags.

Here's the body, which is followed by a 50+ song playlist which I guess he's already chosen. Yes, it begins with a period and has for 18+ months.

.lead vocalist/guitarist/veteran reforming band seeks bass player and drummer with backup vocals and is NOT involved in a current band..send photo/link of performances and partial list of songs included... in my 60's/FIT/clean cut and expect same type of musician.... bassist should be able to perform all songs in original keys as well... age range and have excellent communication skills,no smokers ie..texting/emails and in arlington/alexandria,falls church area and with rehearsal space for drummer is requested.

So as near as I can tell I'd need to be in my 60s, FIT, clean cut, possibly a vocalist/guitarist/veteran who can play in original keys as well as something. Something about an age range and I must be an excellent communicator, which I guess includes not smoking, texting/emails and living in certain Northern Virginia suburbs.

A wise man once told me that we each create our own reputation. I think it is good (and is a helpful warning to others) that the ad poster is broadcasting his reputation to the world.

As an experiment, you could send him the AI rewrite with no comment and see what happens. I realize it's a disservice to your fellow musicians, but it would be interesting to see what he does with it.

Edit: You could solve the disservice problem by including a curated selection from the set list.

You should jam with him just to see

There is an old saying about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. (I know it's colloquially called "the definition of insanity," but I worry that said moniker is insensitive to those with real mental health issues).

It sounds to me like this CL posted is doing just that. And, as others said, when they're that stubbornly stuck like that, they likely won't be receptive to help, even if it is constructive. They're too stuck,. Can't help those who don't want to help themselves. And there are even more extreme cases where once they get a lick of help from you, they might exploit your willing helpfulness and manipulate you into fighting their battles for them (using the "no one else will help me, you're the only one who will help me" pleas).

I say let this go. Let sleeping dogs lie. I totally understand the pull to want to help and be a good samaritan. I work in special education. But I've had to come to terms with the fact that I can't save them all. Some people, I just couldn't reach.

Remember the robot in “Lost In Space” that would swing its arms around erratically and say “Warning!”? That.
