The term "Cookie-cutter" bass shape taken in a completely new direction. Is there anything practical you can do with those holes while the bass is hanging from a strap.
Well, I have heard the Jazz bass described as the Swiss cheese...I mean...Swiss army knife of basses ;-)

I don't hate it. Whatever was done to the side dots bothers me more than the holes.
I just figured it out. They are speed holes so you can play the bass faster!

I think they’re pee holes for when you can’t get the john in time
You know, I was fine with those holes. I hadn’t ruled out buying it. But then, then, I saw the stacked knobs and realized they must have put a preamp in there. Why do people keep doing that to jazz basses?

The two do not have to have anything to do with each other. You can buy a stacked knob passive setup that works just like J's were originally built.
They forgot to drill holes in the headstock to reduce neck dive. 
He drilled and he drilled and still almost 9 pounds?
Surprisingly you can buy the same bass without holes for $50 less. Same seller.

I don't dislike the idea, but I think the execution is pretty poor. Garbage, actually. The holes don't follow any specific sweep or curve, the sizes are haphazard....I don't see the art in it.
If Ovation made a single-cut bass with their signature hole pattern, I'd probably love it. Or if someone made a custom bass with similar cutouts, but following a smooth curve - I could see it.

That's one way to lighten your weight. You could plug those holes pretty easy with something real light, and paint over it.

Side dots are black sharpied1/4" file folder dots. I have these on nearly all my basses. Much easier to see than the factory dots.
