Crushed pearl inlays! I must have missed a post. Did you end up using the Fire Mountain Gem crushed pearl, or another source? What kind of epoxy? Still thinking about doing them on the Hossenfeffer II.

Yes, I used the link you gave me, Fire Mountain. It works great for this application. SystemThree for the epoxy

Not scrapping the first by any means. It's got some issues, butI can work around that. When I saw the piece of holly out on a web site, I knew I had to have it for this build.

Overall, I did learn a lot, so once I got the new piece of holly, it was fairly esay to crank this stuff out.

Thanks for the comps. If there were a blushing emoticon, it would be posted.
Finding holly in this size, was not easy, as stuff like this does not come up often
Needless to say, it was quite expensive.

As luck would have it, I ran into a little bump yesterday.

I put a piece of tape in the nut slot to act as a fence for when I poured the epoxy. I poured the epoxy, and everything looked good, so I ran off to do Christmas stuff. when I returned a few hours later, I was in shock. There was a pool of epoxy by the headstock. It appears as if the tape fence broke free a bit and epoxy had flowed out. I wasnt so concerned about that. I can always relevel and repour. Because the route for the nut broke into the truss rod route a bit, epoxy had also seeped into the truss rod channel a bit. It was all very ugly.

Happy to say that that after the epoxy hardened up a bit, the truss rod does still work.

I'll be hand sanding the radius into fingerboard.

I took off of work on Wednesday for a long weekend. I really wanted to get alot done on this bass, so I started working on this Tuesday night. I didnt want to detract from my progress, so I planned on posting all progress by the end of the weekend. By mid day Friday, I was so stoked on the progress, and everything was going smoothly, I decided to post. I have done a number of these epoxy jobs, so I thought I was in the clear for anything to go worng. How wrong I was.

So @ctmullins, your comp is appreciated, but I really feel more like what @Gilmourisgod said,.....I dodged a bulletin!!!

Oh yeah,

In the first pic to post 359, I show a scrap of wood along side the body. It's hard to tell but I have 5 coats of oil on it. 4 coats of tru-oil, and one coat of a lindseed oil beeswax blend. After 5 coats, the color is retained, and it doesn't get yellow like oils tend to do.

I'm happy for that as I can retain the luster of the holly.

OK got a little time durring the week to put a radius on and start polishing out the FB, and just this evening, install the bindingI have a coat of Tru oil on there right now as a protective layer. Holly gets dirty real fast, we'll see if this stops it from getting dirty
