Home amp suggestions?!

Hi All,

I'm looking for a good quality bass amp that'll only be used at home. Something 100w or less ideally!

The problem is that most small amps I've experienced have all sounded tinny and disappointing. Instead I use my GK rig on low volumes, but a permenantly set up small amp seems appealing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for something small yet with a high quality sound? I'm not expecting 410 levels of fillness, but something I'll enjoy listening too?!

Cheers.

I use a Ampeg 40 watt BA- 110 newer model, Works great has a place for ear phones. And I have used it for small gigs its great and not much money. It also has Ampegs Scrambler overdrive built in. That little 10in speaker sounds great. Its the one sitting on top of my Jeff Berlin 151p MarkBass combo, 300 watts add another cab 500 watts. Since I quit play bars and clubs, I use the little Ampeg a lot. I strictly play worship in church now, at church I use a SWR 350 head and a SWR 410 cab. But check out the Little Ampeg.Just do it do it now.

Could be. Some cabs are brighter and some are darker but the head should be able to dial in any way you want to go.

I realise I'm comparing what I call 'bright' from my GK 212 to the Ampeg 410 and thats with the Ampeg at quite low master and gain volumes. Maybe a lower power driven harder might make the difference?

The used market is awash in "old, antiquated, heavy" stuff. Some of the top shelf stuff from 10-15 years ago is now quite affordable. For instance, I picked up an Ashdown ABM EvoII 2x10 combo recently (320W @ 8ohm, 575W @ 4ohm) from a local GC for $260 a few months ago. It was in great shape, everything works as it should, & it is plenty for my band rehearsals as is. If I find a good extension cab, it could easily serve as a gigging rig. Back in the day, I think this very combo was in the $1,300-$1,400 range.

You should have no trouble finding something on Craigslist, Letgo, (what's the name of the other one?) and Facebook classifieds. For under $200. Used Peavey sells for next to nothing and they sound great! TKO Peavey

Here's some examples on our local C. List site.

Have a look at the TC BG250 1x15 combo. sounds great at low volumes. has headphone out/aux in makes it great kit for bedroom practice.

do you like tweeters on your bass amps?
if yes, Warwick BC80 is very nice.
if not, a Rumble 100 will get you there.

I actually got rid of both, but still have my TC BG250-115 for larger events. for my home practice a Double Four is enough small, enough loud and enough good sounding. I do miss my Warwick combo sometimes, but not that much.
