Home bar. Decor advice requested.

Yeah, there are a lot of ornate ones with extensive woodwork, etc, but they have high ceilings and big rooms which makes all the difference. It will just be too kitsch in a home bar, and it doesn't look like you want to go in that direction.

Instead of the window or door with curtains, how about stained glass windows, or a wooden door the same colour as the bar, with large stained glass panels?

But every time you draw a beer you'll be blocking the view, put it somewhere else.

This was the best spot for it behind the bar, and I definitely wanted it behind the bar. I've been to places where the TV is mounted really high, and after 15 minutes your neck is sore. I didn't want that. I think this was my best option.

And, regarding the curtains, I think the Mrs. may put her foot down on that request.

On the bright side, the bar back is coming along great. I still need to do the moldings, but the brunt of the woodwork is now in the books!

Here's the back with all of the woodwork (finally) complete, with a few bottles on her just for scale, and to get the idea.

And here she is after last night's staining party. Tonight starts round #1 of clear coating. It should be in the house by Monday!

They were the first four bottles I grabbed. I have a ton of stuff. That said, Red Stag is the bomb! I also have Apple, and Maple, Crown. They are tasty too. For straight up, it's Maker's Mark.

With thin wood sheeting, some molding, and a mitre saw (plus the stain you used on the bar) you could do a faux wainscoting. Then use a heavily embossed wallpaper to give that Anaglypta look, then paint that with a gloss, or semi-gloss.

So what's your go-to bourbon? I'm a cheap date, I can get by with Evan Williams. My go-to is Maker's Mark though.

I think, with the size of the room, wainscotting would make it look cramped. For now, I'm just gonna paint the room and see how it looks. Plus, I can't make any decisions like that until I have the bar back done in in there, and some lounge chairs at the other side of the room for, you know, lounging.

For cheap bourbon, the white label Evan Williams is a solid choice. The Devils Cut from Beam ain't so bad at that price point.

My go to would probably be Elmer T. Lee or the small batch Elijah Craig.
Outside of Kentucky, it's the Smooth Ambler single barrel, hands down.

I would put up distressed box beams. 1/4 or 1/2 beam around the perimeter and full beams perpendicular to the wall with the window. If you can DIY, it will be material costs only. And available time of course.
