The backposts in the one I wreck....reclaimed were ash. The sound board was spruce and thick enough to make a nice drop top for a tele. Most of the other large panels were veneer over glued up poplar.Ok, that makes sense. I know the flat panels were pretty useless for me, but I can imagine the the posts being solid. Any idea what kind of wood?
Not surprised HD does not have maple. That stuff doesn't grow on trees.
My local HD carries maple. Nothing over 1" thick, but up to 10" wide and 8 feet long they do.
I'm constantly finding soft curly maple at the menards by me in IL. I've found some long pieces with fantastic figure, and wide enough for book matched quarter inch tops if you resaw it. They also have khaya although I've never bought any from there since I have an excellent hardwood supplier a few towns over. I always look at the maple whenever I'm at menards though.
The nice thing about the menards maple is obviously they don't up charge the figured boards, so it's a great deal.
