Reading the "were you cool in in HS" thread got me thinking about what I missed out on being home-schooled. In general the comments made me thankful that I was home-schooled.
My entire pre-college education was home-school and it allowed me much more freedom to pursue things I was interested in. From an education standpoint I'm not sure that I was better off than if I had gone to public school. I am in my fourth year as a mechanical engineering student and I generally do a few points above average on exams, I'm not sure if thats because I work harder or because I'm smarter than average. I have an internship that could possibly end up turning into a job. My social skills are average I guess, I generally find kids my age boring and tend to get along better with older people. I'd say that for me, home-school worked out fine.
When (if) I get married and have kids I plan on home-schooling my kids until they are able to decide for themselves what they want to do for their education.
There are plenty of home-school horror stories but I think that most of those are the result of very poor parenting not so much home-schooling.
So, what are y'alls thoughts on home-schooling?
Any body out there home-schooled?
Anything you experienced in public school that you think was essential to your quality of life?
