The bigger amps are always the best.Its better to have to much and turn down instead of having to little and needing to turn up.It helps to have more bass amp you are driving the band and even plugged into the PA you have to consider your stage volume which is different then audience volume.I have a Galien Krueger and a Ampeg and they are in the 220 range as on the question asked of me when I stumbled on your thread.I mainly use an old Fender combo 65 watts and big enough to use casters,I have gone to all 10's but am getting back to 15's they displace more air.I use 8 10 Hartke aluminum spkrs but reconfigure amps and cabs gig to gig.I have had the best luck with this set up.I bought a 2 10 Hartke and loved it so I bought a twin cab and had 4 10 hartke cab,I was still using 15's I had twin giganto E V bass bins with a 2 10 on each I bi-amped I always carry 2 cabs and 2 heads and 2 basses.well then I bought a 4 10 hartke I mainly use 6 10's for bigger shows but have used 8 10's but this is usually out side venues.And like I said I mainly use the old Fender with the hofner and jazz.Good luck and I hope you consider buying modular like I did I built my stack in no time flat and it started with that first 2/10 which you can really get by with that one cab good luckl

I have yet to play a gig where my GB Shuttle 3.0-10T combo was not enough. Stand alone for jazz or as a stage monitor with PA, it has more than done the job for me. I am geting my best/most comments with my current set up, and believe me, I've had a bunch of them.

it depends..

one 6x10 cabinet and one 2x12 cabinet wont sound the same with the same 500w head. ive had times where my LMII barely cranked seems to rock the house. other times i think if i turned it up all the way i still wouldent be heard.

Are you talking about tube watts or SS watts?

My LMII (500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms) and my Schroeder 1210L are loud enough for almost any stage, or small-to-medium venue without PA support. Beyond that, I use it as a stage monitor just for me (if we're not using in-ears) and feed the house with my Line6 Bass POD xt Live.

I do have a 2500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms Crown K2 to go with my Schroeder 21012L, but I rarely need that much juice :)

i say more power is better i play in a metal band with 2 very loud guitard players they both have 100w valve marshall stacks so i splashed out on a new laney nexus 400w all valve head

some might say thats too much but the feeling i got at the next gig when they were running both heads on the limit while mine wasnt even turned up to 4 was amazing.... almost orgasmic

downside is my rig is now heavier than both guitar stacks put together ah well it will keep me fit i suppose
