How can I make myself like beer?

I hate it and always have but I keep seeing those damn Sam Adams commercials and they all just look so tasty. So does that new Bud Light Lime. I've just never really liked the taste of ANY beer though.

Is there anything I can do to make myself like it? :help: :atoz:

Go to a micro brewery where they make it fresh. Most commercial beer is dreck and tastes like it because of all the addative they put in it to make it last forever.

Same adams is one of the better tasting beers, but you will find even better at a microbrewer. Just have a designated driver because it takes a lot less of a good beer to get you drunk.

Do some heavy work in the sunshine that makes you sweaty. You'll enjoy beer when you take a break. I learned to like beer when I was 17 and working on a house of a friend of my family. I remember a hot afternoon when me and my twinbrother were mixing concrete in the sunshine and transported it into the house. We did that for a couple of hours, then the owner of the house offered us a beer. That was the first time beer tasted good to me. :)

If you are having trouble liking beer it may mean that you are much more sensitive to bitter substances and cheap ingredients. You may want to try a beer with a strong bready flavor and some subtle sweetness. Actually, most of such beers are technically more bitter than lighter ones, but their strong pleasing flavors mask the bitterness (i.e., their flavors are balanced). Trappist-style Belgian strong dark ales or some German doppelebocks might be more to your liking. Beers that actually taste better as they warm up, unlike most of the cheap common beers.

I remember as a kid of around 14 hating beer, having to choke it down. Then one day it just happened. I opened one up and it tasted reaaal good. :smug:

You are really better off with mixed drinks. Especially if you avoid soda. Helps prevent the dreaded beer gut.

Go to a nice local grocery storey (if any are in your area) and build yourself a six-pack of whatever you want. It's a great way to try things out. I've always liked the taste of beer, so I never had to 'get used to it.' I'm not a fan of many American beers (Coors, Bud Light, Etc.)

Some of my favorites include: Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat, Guiness Draught, Warsteiner, Pilsner Urquell, Heineken Dark (the other's aren't bad either).

I'm not a fan of the lighter beers, but do enjoy one every so often.

The notion of an 'acquired taste' seems completely absurd to me. Why continue consuming something if you don't like it in the first place?

I agree. I have given beer a shot on probably a dozen occasions but I just can't stand it. Given that I know I like the taste of scotch (and didn't have to "acquire" a taste for it), I just drink that instead. If I'm in a "beer bar," I drink soda or water.
