How can people play with a long strap?!

A rhyming couplet for my fellow TBers:
Bass worn high, technique can fly

Ok, I will tell you the trick... but don't tell anybody else. The trick is, when you want to play the higher frets, don't!
Don't know why you would have a problem with the higher strings. Do you have a super wide 6 string (or more) neck?

Well, see, here's how I think it works... some people think that wearing a strap high is more comfortable or looks better. Some people think that wearing a strap low is more comfortable or looks better. So some people wear their strap low, and some people wear their strap high.
I find playing much higher than my waist a problem. My wrists and arms hurt. I have no idea how some of you play up around your chest. I can't play too much lower than my waist either though. Obviously we're all different.
I play pretty low, it'll sit around (or just above) my knee. With my heavier basses it definately leads to back pains after a show, not so much a problem with lighter basses.

The words "trying too hard" come to mind looking at this picture. I just don't get the guitar strung low thing. Would you see someone playing a 1ft piano bent over? Makes about as much sense

Depends what I am playing for me....I am 6'4 or so though. If I am playing with my fingers I keep it pretty high up. If I am playing mostly 1/4 and 1/8 note just roots with some passing notes I play it pretty low with a pick and find it is way easier on my right arm in the long run.
Luckily my bands always seem to be one or the other, if I get a band going that plays a mix and I do both then I dont know what I will do haha.
