How do I keep track of what I've read and not read?

I realize that what I haven't read is supposed to be in bold, but I keep feeling like I'm missing stuff. I feel like stuff goes unbold before I've looked at it.

What's the right way to see all the new stuff that's been posted since I last visited?

One way is to click the "new posts" link in the forum header (visible only if you're logged in). TalkBass uses a cookie timeout to determine user "sessions". After 15 minutes on non-activity, your current session ends and all threads are marked 'read'.

Well, that explains it. I guess there's no way to change it so that when my current session ends, all threads are not marked 'read'?

I'll just have to remember to logout as best I can.

The bad thing about the New Posts thing is that it shows me new posts in all forums, not just the forum I'm currently in.

Thanks anyway - I understand that this is probably a limitation of the vBulletin software.

If you choose the pulldown menu titled "Quick Links" - you can click on "Todays' Posts" which can be useful when "New Posts" has lapsed.

If you really think you have missed something you can always do a search - when I've been away a while I will search on my own name to find out if anybody has been asking me something!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I do appreciate it. I tried the Today's Posts, but it had the same problem as New Posts - it returns posts from all forums, not the one currently being viewed.

If it just didn't mark everything read when I logout, it would be a lot easier to use. I mean, that's the way email works.

Paul, I saw that you're in Austin, so took a look at your profile. Tell Dr. Neubert I said hello. Tell him I don't work on cars much anymore. Wow, their son must be grown by now - it's been 17-18 years. Where does the time go?
