Your hatred of signature basses seems oddly intense.
No, I have an intense hatred of being a corporate marketing victim, if only obliquely.Your hatred of signature basses seems oddly intense.

Overall, they are a turn-off. I've seen a few that I like, but two things have been a deal breaker for me. First, the artist's name being prominently displayed on the bass, sometimes on the headstock or the worst case example, inlaid on the fretboard (Sting). The second is the artist themselves. I really like the looks of the Fender Mike Dirnt basses, but I'm not going to buy any instrument named after a member of Green Day. I'd feel like a jackass.
Sometimes, as in the case of Rickenbacker, they are/were a celebration of an artist who was a longtime player of said brand. In RIC's case, they were limited runs, in some cases very small quantities, unlike some other makers who do certainly use it strictly as a marketing tool, for better or worse.
One of the best stories surrounding a signature model (to me, anyway) was from Pete Townshend, who felt bad/embarrassed that Rickenbacker wanted to make a PT signature instrument given how many Pete smashed on stage!
Other than being cranky that nobody cares about ME enough to ask me to my name on one, cuz no one gives a Rats Furry Butt.
This thread was set up to trash Brands...thus the possibility of the closure of it and others like it.
Problem very easily solved: sandpaper
Signatures? Like the ones that say Fender or Gibson on the headstock?
Gotta be a worst-case there, sure enough.I've seen a few that I like, but two things have been a deal breaker for me. First, the artist's name being prominently displayed on the bass, sometimes on the headstock or the worst case example, inlaid on the fretboard (Sting).
