How do you know you don't suck?

I surrounded myself with a bunch of guys who do suck, and I blend right in. So that's my trick, anyway. Oh - they only play hard rock (much to my chagrin). They think I'm good since I can keep up. What they don't know is that when I practice solo I'm doing Sade, blues, AWB, or assorted funk bass lines. So when they want me to do the odd Skynyrd, Judas Priest or other G**-forsaken bass line - I'm the man! Now all I have to do is wean them from the crappy 80's rock stuff they insist on doing....hey it's someone to jam with, what can I say...

Thanks Usul. I finally get a welcome after 60 posts!
The attitude comes from philosophising too much sometimes, but I try to have a good outlook on life, and all aspects of it. Besides, life is supposed to be about happiness and fun, right? Music makes me happy because I am having fun...

If someone's already made this observation, I apologize. As a careful reader, I suck. (So many posts, so little time). But if you think you suck, you don't suck. It's kinda like crazy people. If they're cogent enough to think they're crazy, they're not crazy. It's the guy who sucks yet who thinks he's a suavelicious groovmeister deluxe who is the suckiest of sucks. Not only is he talentless, he's egocentric AND oblivious. Hey, Primus used to come out and say, "We're Primus, and we suck." They don't. See? It's simple really.

well... i won't say that i *suck* persay... but i just started my bass playing this summer. and no one's teaching me, i'm learning it on my own. but i can comfortably play around ten songs.

i think i'm doing pretty good so far. and if i keep up the work, i can probably be awesome. it's just if i can keep up the hard work! learning something on your own is hard!

i don't go around talkin' crap though. i know where i stand as a bassist. i'm an amateur and not afraid to say that i can always get better and that i don't know everything!
