There is only one "top dog"...the NYC vendor cart dog; Sabrett, natural casing. I'll take a Nathan's in a pinch, however. All beef...anything else is bologna (literally).
Thuman's mustard is preferred when making dogs at home (I have over a dozen mustards in the fridge...I say this after considerable research).
From the cart in NY, I'll take mustard, and that red onion sauce.

Well, after much time, trial and error... I know what I like on it, its slowly become what I always get now, kinda simple not too much but... not plain
Mustard, little ketchup, Relish, Onions, Jalapeños, some pickle.
SO good.
German mustard and 'kraut.
Or regular mustard and pickle relish.
Or with chili and cheese.
I also prefer my 'dogs grilled on the pit, not fried or boiled. They taste better with that carbon on 'em.

As quickly as possible. Eating hot dogs means I'm hungry. And with just mustard, thank you very much.

How about Max's in Long Branch ? They're pretty well known for their dogs too.

On a stick, dipped in cornmeal batter, then deep-fried. Slathered w/mustard.

The other very cool NJ hot dog place is Jimmy Buff's, home of the original Italian Hot Dog. Another one cooked in oil along with onions, peppers and potatos and served on a pizza dough roll .....

When I make them it is usually because I am poor as hell so I just put ketchup on them.
However I do enjoy chili, cheese and ketchup ones as well.
Sometimes I will add mustard. I live mustard but it always seemed a little funky on a dog.

I like mine all beef, thick and juicy with good buns. Not those flat, flabby buns. I like the Jumbo Dogs, not the skinny, wimpy weiners.
