How do you unwind after work?

I'm single with no kids.

My job is pretty laborious, so I've been avoiding the workout/exercise routine, at least until the snow melts, this is.

Ah. In that case, find a way to sit in the woods for a few minutes. I sit (if not walk) in some trees for at least 10 minutes a day. It will change your life. I do it if it's cold, I can't get to it until after dark, it's raining, whatever. 10 minutes in some trees every day, even if it a just a park, will change your life.

Also, I learned a trick a while back when I worked construction. (I think it was a little paragraph in Men's Health.) If at all possible, take your shoes off during lunch or any break. It seems silly, but it really will make you feel better. Before you laugh, try it. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel after your shoes have been kicked off for a few minutes. You'll feel less stressed all day so maybe that will take you into the night.

I don't recommend it, but I tend to eat. Drinking and eating and watching Arrested Development episodes are my defaults, but I'm trying to break that habit. It doesn't really set the table for the rest of the night.

What actually works sometimes is just laying on my bed and staring at the ceiling for a few minutes.

A workout, a couple beers, a good dinner... Sometimes I play video games after dinner & have a couple more beers. Sometimes I watch TV or a movie. Sometimes I work some more. Sometimes I record some music... Late night stuff depends if the wife and kids are home or not.

If it's a crap week of work I go snowboarding (winter) or fishing (summer) to get away from the city and work, in general.

Im usually able to leave work behind me when I walk out the door.

Depending on what I have to do that evening, I unwind in various ways...

Sometimes is meditation and yoga. I'll cook a meal. Get lifted. Go to practice. Get laid.

Im practically unwinding from the time I get home, until I wake up the next day.

Working out helps me. I may not always feel like doing it but, even if I'm just not feeling up to a hard workout, doing something light to raise my heart rate a little and break a sweat does wonders. Even more so after a not-so-great day.

My two idiot bosses make my job way more stressful than it has to be. Normally I can punch out and forget about work for the rest of the day, but they've really been riding my @$$ lately. I've been finding it harder to come home and relax. How do you unwind after a hard day?

I teach 17 very hyper, easily distracted ADHD kids all day. I unwind with the bass, which is why I started playing it. We don't get to punch out and leave our jobs at school. Most nights and weekends are spent doing paperwork. The bass helps me unwind... it's either that or a stiff drink.

Use Photoshop to create skins for World of Tanks. Sounds silly, but I spend hours working on skins nobody will ever see, sometimes I never even load them for myself. If a technique is tricky I'll start over from scratch and do it a few times to get the process down.
