How does Big Ben sound?

I really just wanna know if the 15" son of bertha is gonna be loud enough otherwise I want the 18" big ben but I have never played out of the big ben and I want to know how bassy it is because as much as I hate for my e string to be distorted I really like to turn the gain up and get that crunch (yes i occasionaly use a fuzz pedal).

In short does Ben have midrange aswell as lowrange punch cuz I've read so many bad reviews for the 15" I'd rather just get another gIII 2x10 than have a 15" that craps out and an overly bassy 18"

also what does everyone think about mixing and matching cabs because that would just add a whole nother slew of options

Hi! I have been using a BIGBEN for over 15 years.

Yes it does full range very well.

I don't find it all that much bassyer then other good bass cabs but it will handle TONS of just about anything you throw at it.

I find it to be a very dry sounding cab, very even and honest, almost too honest some times. This is the one thing I really don't like about it, it just isn't chewy like 12s and 15 are; I can't stand 10s my self.

Also the ports are in the back [at least mine is] and so you can't have it right against a wall or you will get resonate freq probs.

When I use it I normally use it with a 2X12 for outdoor gigs.

And yes I sometimes run fuzz boxes through it.

My outdoor rig is 2x Big Ben plus a Goliath I (bi-amped). This rig gives me the low end which I was unable to obtain with 412+215 or 810+215. But depending on the venue, this could be a good or bad thing. I only use that rig outdoor when there is no PA support.

As discussed, the Big Ben is surprisingly full range, very much comparable to other woofer only cabs. The Big Ben is also louder and deeper than the Son of Bertha (115), but not because of the the speaker size, rather because the Big Ben is a much bigger box.

Also I think the Goliath is better than 2x Goliath Jr. ...

Thanks for all the advice fellas.

For those of you who suggested the 4x10 I'm sorry but its just not gonna happen cuz I already got a 2x10 but I think I'm gonna get another because besides the lack of potential phasing issues it fits my budget and it would make for one highly portable rig not to mention add another tweeter horn.

As for the Ben proponents thanks but no thanks as much as I love a good DDDOOOONNNGGGG sound I would hate for it to overpower my growl. Now if I ever had the money or the need for all that power my ideal rig would probly be a Goliath 4x10 with a Big Ben, I'm creamin myself just thinkin about it but right now it would probably go unused bc I just don't need all that power.

So I'm off to the store soon, onlinestore rather, and will be purchasing another GIIIjr to sit on top of my current one.

I'll post again and tell everyone how it turns out
