How does someone like Ed Friedland choose a bass?

Music stores have banned Ed because whenever he enters, all of the bass necks bow down to him.

The phonebook is true... but I don't eat McD's OR BK. Pure unadulterated POISON! Here in Austin... we've got Dan's Hamburgers, and Mighty Fine. Now THAT is a burger my friends!

I lived in Austin for about 20 years and it's true - there's no better hamburger than at Dan's anywhere.

BTW, the music stores there are good enough to justify a trip to Austin just to shop for gear. I discovered Bass Emporium only very late, only a year or two before I moved away - it's not only the home of Ed and their arsenal of bass virtuosos, but it's probably the best bass shop in town.

Then there's Guitar Resurrection which is just down the street from BE - I bought my L2000 FL there back in '99 and they got a great selection there too.

Then there's Ray Henning's Heart O' Texas music down on south Lamar, Ray Henning is pretty much a celebrity among musicians now, known around the world. Just going in there is a piece of history and usually Ray is there too.

But BE I'd actually make the drive to Austin (14 hours from northern NM) to do business with, i.e. to buy or sell any gear I might need. And of course, Ed teaches there too.

Don't miss the weather, but I miss the music stores!
